X-Tools Workshop Prep Stand Pro
A profesional quality workshop workstand with multi adjustable quick release head. Lightweight yet robust construction.
I can't believe I spent 15 years on my knees leaning bikes against the wall!
This stand is great. I can't compare it first hand to other stands, but it's surprisingly big, very stable, the clamp really grips (even around a seat tube) and it just makes cleaning and maintaining bikes so much easier.
If you need any more convincing than what you can read in these reviews, read the even more gushing ones for the more expensive "BikeTool Folding Workshop Stand" - one glance at the photos tells you it's come off exactly the same production line, just with a different sticker. So save your back and your wallet!
I bought this stand with a view that it was cheap enough for home use and it must be better than tuning my bike upside down. However, once I unpacked it and started using it I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and usefulness.
The build quality is great and the stand folds away nicely to stow in the garage corner. It's very sturdy in use and hold my StumpJumper with ease, although I do have to clamp it on the seat tube rather than the frame. This has never proven to be a problem though.
I've also used it with a number of my friends bikes and there's never been a time when I haven't been able to fully fix a bike to it.
The clamp rotates around and that makes for great working. You can effectively rotate the whole bike 360 degrees. When I saw the design with the 2 feet out front I was concerned about stability but once the bike is on there the weight counterbalances the stand nicely. You'd have to be fairly clumsy to knock the whole thing over, although I'm sure it would be possible.
The whole stand is height adjustable too so you can raise and lower it to the right height with a simple to use lever release mechanism.
It's really hard to fault this stand and for the money you can't really go wrong. I haven't used a more expensive stand but I can't think what else you might need for home use.
This is a must have if you frequently service around your bike, it is light and strong. But have to complains: I have a heavy motorized mountain bike and struggle to keep its place high. When fully open it can slide back to close position, you need to really tighten securely the clamp. Secondly my mountain bike has wide oval tubing and I wish the workshop stand jaw could open more widely. Overall is good for the price.
