Kinesis Maxlight Kinesium Carbon XC Pro II
The new XCPro2 is a thoroughbred race machine for 90-100mm travel forks. The prototype frames have been race condition tested by our Kinesis UK race team producing some outstanding results.
The XC Pro 2 uses the same super lightweight, oversize Kinesium tubing as the XC Pro. The down tube is Aero profile at the top and changes to a large oval section at the machined BB for maximum stiffness and weld area, the top tube is teardrop section near the head tube changing to round and then square section at the seat tube junction. This custom drawn tubing allows us to optimise tubing wall thickness, giving a super light frame, which retains strength and stiffness at the crucial areas.
New ‘tuned carbon wishbone’ seatstays, we have developed these stays in conjunction with Kinesis International to match the characteristics of the XC Pro 2 frame perfectly, the stays are direct in response to drive and allow some vertical compliance for comfort. New lightweight CNC machined dropouts mate to stiff, hydroformed chainstays making sure no power is wasted.
Features
new Zero stack headtube, the larger dia. of this tube also adds weld area, meaning greater strength and stiffness,
Went from a Marin to the Kinesis frame, built up with Juicy 5s, Reba team U-turn forks, xt drive train and Easton post / bar / stem.
Really nice feel of sitting 'in' the bike as opposed to 'on' it.
Ride it to work everyday as well as 50kms on the Surrey hills on the weekends. Confidence inspiring on the rough stuff and in the corners.
Performs brilliantly and looks great too (aluminium finish).
Looking forward to taking in on Scotland coast to coast in 2007.

Built mine up last week and raced it at the weekend in a 10 hour enduro (10@Kirroughtree). Superb ride! Build is all XT with Reba SL forks and Hope Pro II/Mavic 717 wheels. Using old bars/stem/seatpost until I've experimented with the setup. Very light bike which flies up hills and feels perfectly at home on the downhills too, particularly on swooping singletrack. Even with tyres at 45psi, it was perfectly comfortable.
Very impressed so far, but one note of caution : don't skimp on the gear cables - the rear mech cable routing is a *wee* bit awkward and cheap cables will cause shifting problems if mud gets in. Go for proper sealed Shimano ones.
Just bought the white version and set up with a new pair of white bombers (xc700sl). it looks superb with a red raceface stem, red seat and carbon bars, post, ect. Second all those that say it is comfortable on the ups and downs. I too have moved from an old Marin and am noticing every tiny mark that appears!! However, once the novelty has worn off and the winter comes I cant wait to really thrash my bike around and see what it is truly made of.
