Description
The EX 5.1d is a wider profile with more material being used to create a stronger rim, aimed more at the freerider/all mountain rider looking for strength without the DH tag. The EX5.1d rim closes the gap between our X-country rim XR4.1d and the freeride rim FR6.1d. As a demand from the market we offer a rim with large width but light weight. High stability with a weight of 500g and 28 mm width is guaranteed. The hubs are machined from billet 2014 aluminium with sealed cartridge bearings throughout. The front hub can be used with either quick release or 20mm axle and can be swapped with just an allen key. The all new Pro2 range of hubs includes a further development of our proven ratchet mechanism. This features a 7075 aluminium rotor body screwed onto a titanium pawl carrier. These pawls engage into a 24 tooth ratchet which is fixed into the hub shell and are sealed with a frictionless, non con-tact labyrinth seal
Features: • Number of holes - 32 • Aimed more towards the Freeride market • Hubs machined from billet 2014 Aluminium • Sealed cartridge bearings • Can be used with quick release or 20mm axle • Weight - 904g (front) or 1026g (rear) • ERD - 539 mm • ETRTO - 559 x 21 • Specials - torsion-resistant with extensively optimized profile, perfectly pressed-in eyelets of stainless steel
only been riding them a couple of weeks, and freehub is still way loud...good bell/horn sub when approachin walkers and other cyclists from behind tho! they'r reasonably light, super stiff, all black & look the shizz! come with top quality hubs with a way better free-wheel capacity than i'm used to...haven't hit anyhting major yet, but my previous alexrims buckled if they got a dirty look...a big fat tyre sits a beaut on them, and unlike the reviewer who had trouble with tyre fittin, my kendas popped on no bother
ive had a set of these since the 1st week hope released them, to build these up buying the bit seperatly would cost you alot more then £260!
proII's live forever, and the rim so far has proven more then capable of handling everything ive thrown at it, including comming up short on a double at llandegla and breaking 3 ribs.
trouble mounting tyres ? ive had none what so ever, maxxis wire bead 2.35 high rollers and minions, a few michelin tyres and maxxis la**en TT's with kevlar beads have all gone on snug, some people just need to learn to fit tyres without having to resort to metal levers.
I've been running these wheels on a hardtail AM\light DH rig for 3 months now. I'm amazed that I haven't even needed to true them yet, even after a monster stack yesterday. I'm not sure what some of the other comments are about - these wheels are plenty tough.
They do have a habit of blowing tubes if you run the pressure under 30 psi on the rear, so be warned. I usually run 40psi, which is only a little harsh without a rear shock.
The hub sound is great - there isn't another trail user out there that won't hear you coming :P
