Hope Headset - 1.5" Stepdown
Self explanatory. Takes 1.5” headtube (only, not a Cannondale) down to use a 1 1/8” fork. Perfect for the big freeride bikes where a triple clamp fork is being used. 113g. 13mm stack height. Only available in black.

• Full stainless steel bearings (replacable) • Split crown race • Common parts throughout the range • All parts available as spares and fully rebuildable • Steel hed doc bolt on the 1.5" step down • Total stack height: 13mm • To run alongside the conventional 1 1/8” threadless headset. • The bearings themselves are STAINLESS STEEL and are replaceable. • The cups, taper ring and crown race (which is now split for easy installation and removal) are all machined aluminium. • Sealing is achieved through an adjustable taper ring cover and integrated rubber seal. • The bearings also incorporate their own sealing and being made from stainless steel resist corrosion and it’s by products much better than a conventional steel bearing. • The 1.5” stepdown has a revised lower cup assembly which drops the crown of the fork down by 10mm, improving clearance between forks and down tubes. • An aftermarket crown race is also available which has 3mm of extra height built into it, which again can be used to help with clearance
I must agree with the anonymous reviewer, it does fit aluminum Cannondale frames (10mm cup insertion) as I have one of these on a 05 Jekyll. It does NOT fit carbon frames (7mm insertion).
The headset itself is top notch, smooth and tough. Perfect finish.
The one on the picture (the one I have) has a top stack of 8mm and a lower stack of 15mm from the bottom of the crown race. Watch for frame clearance!
This was the second step-down headset I bought for my Giant Glory previous purchase was a Pig reducer and because it used a 1.5 in crown race adapter it was difficult to set the forks in position. This headset eliminates that problem the lower cup is machined to be the size of a 1"1/8 and takes standard 1"1/8 bearings voila no difficult setup. Only 1 negative, could come in more colourways to match the remainder of the Hope range!
Fitted this to my Cannondale F400. To address some confusion here; it does fit Cannondale Headshok headtubes, at least my 2006 frame. It is very light, well made and the split crown race is such a good idea. A touch pricy, no doubt because it has Hope inscribed on it and not FSA.
