The Globetrotter - built for the stresses of world tours....now available in reflective sidewall & foldable options
The Travel Contact is the best choice for touring riders or commuters who ride on and off road and who’s priority requirement is puncture protection. This tyre features Continental puncture protection technology from bead to bead – tough Duraskin external fabric on the sidewall which protects the casing from sharp objects, and our polyamide/Kevlar belt under the tread. World touring cyclist Tilmann Waldthaler, who recently rode from Alaska to Patagonia describes the tyre like this “The Continental Travel Contact is the best thing I have ever had on a bike.”
Features:
• Uses all our new puncture protection systems in one tyre to give a product which is the new standard for world tours, or any type of heavy duty cycling • Semi slick tread with knobbly "endless edge“ shoulders, great on the road and not bad either when the road ends and some off road riding is required • Safety System - Kevlar reinforced anti-puncture belt under the tread along with Duraskin sidewall protection • Weight: 640g(folding)/ 690g(Wire Reflex) / 670g (Wire)
Superb tyres, I wanted some semi slicks for summer but something tough for a little off road trail riding too, these are bombproof, they work like slicks on tarmac and are pretty grippy off road, i defy you to puncture them, they are like croc skin.
Super quiet on road and nice high pressure (mine are at 60psi) only thing is on a hardtail alluminum fram they do make the bike very stiff and shaky.
We finished a 2500mile tour down the US west coast and through Arizona with these tires last year. Great performance and puncture resistance, and still some rubber left. I think in total between 4 tires we had 3 flats, but I plucked out innumerable staples & nails from the rubber which couldn't get through the kevlar. Very quiet and smooth on pavement, and decent stability/cornering on unsurfaced terrain thanks to the outer knobs. They are a bit of a hassle to get on and off though.
I've had these on my bike for about a 3 months now, and they seem peerless. Perfect for trekking, big distances, and commuting. No punctures as yet (touch wood!).
They do let go quite easily off road when braking hard with my hydraulics in a straight line, but corner well for something that is nigh-on completely slick.
