I changed to these from the saints i had on my yeti AS-X and they are soo much lighter!!! I removed the outer ring and changed the middle to a 38T. When im downhilling (which the cranks are easily strong enough for) i simply remove the inner ring and fit my E-13 light guide. Awesome cranks yet again from shimano, and as always soo easy to fit. 10**********
I've installed this crank on a Trek Fuel 90 to replace the worn out original. The crank went on smoothly albeit using a rubber mallet to push the spindle through the bearings. It’s worth assessing if your frame needs facing. I measured mine and just cleaned it up but if your in any doubt get your LBS to face it for you as the facing tools are expensive for a one off operation. I used the Park hollowtech tool which, although nice and didn’t grind the cups couldn’t be used with the crank on and I had to drop the rear tail arm of the frame to get the tool round on the crank side. Having now ridden the bike the cranks operation is excellent. I noticed straight away the bike weighed less and felt more nimble on climbs and turns. Crank is smooth and the shifts light and effortless. I'd recommend this as a good upgrade but it takes some time and patience to install so if your LBS says they'll install it for a good price, take them up on it. Least you'll have some recourse if it doesn’t work right either and will save the install cost on the tools you’ll have to buy to get your old BB out and the Hollowtech on.
The Shimano XT Chainset is brilliant, so smooth you can’t even hear it going round. The External BB just looks and feels plush and transforms the bike. The kit is well made and well worth the money. I was thinking about going for the XTR but when I looked at them both in the shop I couldn’t see where the extra £120 was. The XTR also has a smaller, large ring and you can’t buy an XTR one too fit. Go on treat yourself, you know you want to?!?
