The goal of ultra lightweight construction is fully achieved in the SLR. Just 135g with nothing sacrificed in terms of technical specifications. Thanks to a combination of features including a carbon shell, padding fashioned from EVA, and a featherweight tubular titanium rail which weighs just 45g.
It might not look it but this is a really comfortable saddle. It's hammock like quality flexes to provide comfort from road/trail vibrations rather than relying upon padding. Much like the Brooks that I'd been using previously it moulds itself to your derrier over time giving similar levels of comfort for a weight saving of around 250g. Oh, did no one mention how stoopidly light this saddle is? Comfort, looks, low weight, it's got it all, at a price.
I have owed this saddle for around three years. Its well worth the price! I bought it as I wanted a saddle for a multipurpose bike, speedy commuting, winter road training and light off road. It has three sets of wheels. This saddle fits me realy well and feels much more comfy than it should be. Although the padding is very sparse it is exactly where my sit bones connect with the saddle. The carbon composite plate has just enough yield adding a cushioning feeling. My saddle has been ridden through all weathers and they only signs of wear, after three years, are a few light scuffs on the edges and a little fading of the saddle decor. Functionally it is still as good as when I bought it. It cleans up really well and shows no signs of the saddle cover coming loose. It has survived several impacts.
Its limitations are that it only has one seating position, so it must be properly adjusted in the seat clamp.the seat rail is marked with a clear measure which I have found useful as I have two differet settigs I use, depending on how I intend to use the bike. After three years use it is still clear and unfaded.
It works ok off road, small bumps and general uneveness is no problem , for rougher trails it can be harsh. However its lightess makes the bike feel more balanced out of the saddle. If I am riding for more than couple of hours I choose a different saddle but for a racey light weight option this is my choice.
This saddle looks great and is very light..more like 140g than 135..but it still is great. If you are a racer like me, you will spend a large amount of time bent over on the saddle for a more racy posture. If you do this, you will not notice any comfort issues, but if you ride more upright, with a lot of weight on the saddle, you may experience comfort problems.
