Nearly purchased two hope vision single leds,but got to inpaitient and decided to by this light and im chuffed to bits i did,Very bright light flood rather than spot, not massive distance but what do you need in woods,dont find the need for helmet light as this light has a great spread.The light amitted is white not yellow and i felt realy safe bombing around the woods,realy well made actual light unit not that big and sits on bars neatly.
Fantastic light. I have owned the Hope 2 LED for a while which is great light but lacks the penetration needed for flying through the woods at night. No such issues with the new 4 LED. It has four main settings (plus flashing). The High and Max settings are amazing but the medium setting (which gives over 7 hours burn time) is more than you need for all but the most technical singletrack. The light can also be fitted to the centre mounting plate from the old Hope lights with the use of the adaptor they provide to attach the light to the helmet mount.
Brilliantly well made light, you can tell this is going to last years as everything feels solid and good quality. If you want a light that you aren't going to feel the need to upgrade or replace in 18 months time then this is going to be it.
The whole unit is compact and relatively light (415g) so you can really leave it on all the time in the winter months and not notice it.
For brightness you really won't be asking for any more on full power and the lowest level is fine for cruising, commuting and road riding.
Here's a breakdown:
Flash Mode: Goes on and on and on and on....
Level1: 36 hrs - Fine for Cruising, Commuting & Road RIding. Comfortable level of light.
Level2: 8 hrs - Good all-round off-road level,fine for all but the most technical singletrack stuff, bit bright for commuting but the drivers certainly dip their beams as they wonder what the hell is coming at them
Level3: 3.25hrs - Whoah, meltdown! You can see everything in plenty of time and hit the trails at full pelt. Objects in the trail don't appear too harsh like they can do with some white light. Go fly!!
Level4:2.25hrs - Extra Meltdown!! (level 3 & 4 are actually virtually identical in terms of usable light)
So overall, really great light. You can tell loads of testing went into this. Well made and with plenty of power this will serve you well. Also, the beam is wide so no need for an extra helmet light, it works fine on the bars just on it's own. The darker it is the better it gets!!
