The reason that Hope provide an Alloy freehub body is to keep the weight down so they seem competitive on the weight front.
Yes we all know steel is better, but we're the people that don't care about a gram and would rather use the toilet than spend £5k on some plastic race thing.
I've got and used both alloy and steel, honnestly stop whining! You've got a crackin' hub with a lightweight freehub body, if you don't like it, get the steel and it'll last forever. (as long as you keep ontop of the servicing.)
Even with aluminium carrier cassettes the splines will wear down. This represents a failing in the ProII hub design (hense only a rating of 4), but you can get the steel replacement freehub body which solves the problem entirely.
