Description
Super Lightweight Perforated EVA Foam & Vented Armor. Smaller, lighter version of the Race Knee Leg cuff stays in position
Features:
• Thicker ventilated closed cell foam armor. • Smaller, lighter version of the Race Knee. • Not a pull-on, keep shoes on and strap up. • Vented plastics protect yet allow cooling air flow.
Fit: Require a bit of breaking in but once that's over with, say 10hrs or so, they are very comfortable. I have very thick/broad calves and they wrap round fine.
I'm a short arse (5'7", with a 31" inside seam) and I got the medium. My kid who's 11 wears the small. So I'd say go for a bigger size than you think you would normally buy.
Use them all the time now.
Performance:
What can I say. I broke my shoulder and fingers on my last kamikaze attempt. But I'm still walking! I had a good look at the plastic hardshell protection after my crash and there's no doubt that if I wasn't wearing them I'd be on crutches. BTW I'm getting an assault suit before my next kamikaze move :)
Value:
See above. Priceless.
Use:
I can only comment on my style of riding which I would say is incompetent, aggressive XC. So if this is your style then buy!
Summary:
Bottom line is at this price you can't go wrong. A definite buy.
As an XC and XM rider i thought body armour was a bit over the top for what i did. However, a friend convinced me to buy some, so i got this as it looked lightest and simplest etc. I took it out for the first time and did find it a little stiff, but still comfy-escpecialy if you have lycra bib longs that cover your knees.
The best thing about this armour is the ease of taking it on and off, quick and easy with gloves on. Though i recomend this armour for XC and XM, i havent tried others so my opionion is not fully formed, but i found this weekend that armour is very important, coming off at 25mph when my shocks collapsed came as a total suprise (just like the time that black ice catches you out etc) and though i pulled muscels in my legs (pedals didnt unclip) and ripped my thigh apart, this armour is the only reason my knee caps are going to be doing any riding this season........
Bought these pads just before the summer, have been doing plenty of Agressive XC / DH / Jumping and they've saved my knees / shins plenty of times!
Good Points:
Fitting is good with multiple straps
Pads are comfy and dont weigh much
Hard Plastic is strong
Bag Points:
Pads do move down if u pedal sitting down, and
when u fall, sometimes the pad shifts out of place slightly and ur knee is exposed (usually only resulting is a minor scratch or bruise), dont let this put you off though, pads are exellent and are worth the money!
