I used to have terrible ghost shifting problems due to crud continually getting in the gear cables due to the way they were routed on my bike. I fitted a teflon coated inner cable, and fitted some of these over the ends of the outers - job done. No problems since.
Put these on my Kona Sutra. I fully weather proofed everything for the winter rains. They need a little grease on the nipple to help them slide, but they do what they say on the tin.
