great chainset bought this to put on my 2008 rockhopper pro as the colour scheme fitted the frame more than the black fc-m532 which has now been put on my 2007 avalanche 2.0. the power transfer is unreal, so much better than a square taper and an octalink, and ocatalink bb are really good! quality piece of kit!

Having ran XT, LX & now the Deore version of the the octalink II cranks on my bikes, I can honestly say that unless you're worried about the differences in weight (we're tlaking XC racers here), the differences in performance to the average trail rider are insignificant. All versions of the cranks are stiff, reliable, easy to fit & maintain & certainly the deore version are excellent value for money.
The LX version has lasted me 20 months of daily commute riding (6-8 miles) per day with at least four 2 hour XC rides per month on my steel hardtail with no failures & the shifting has only really started to be effected for the last 2 months due to wear. I persevered with those only to see the winter months out. So longevity is proven.
In reality I only bought the deore crankset as it was cheaper to do so than actually bu the replacement chain rings & BB bearing set for the LX cranks which are still very serviceable.
Saying that I am more than happy with the purchase & as they are all steel chain rings, have no doubt they will last the distance.
In summary, an excellent product from shimano!

Ive had these cranks for a couple months now on my dirtjumper, and i can honestly say they are awesome cranks. Lighter than more aggressive cranks but still great performance. Deffenetly suggest them to any intermediate rider in dirtjumping and advanced to intermediate cross-country riders! A+
