The Shimano Ultegra Compact Glossy Grey Road Groupset, and as we all know Shimano are well known for creating some fantastic cycling products, one of their most well known products is the Ulteg ....Read More...
This is a very good groupset that has all the important parts to have a smooth, quick shifting system and great stoppers. It came with all cables and housing needed to set up a bike. The price was actually cheaper than my local dealer has to pay from his supplier as well! The chainset is especially great. The best shifting, no flex unit I've found at a price I can afford. I feel it's the best bang for the buck (pound?) available. Kudos to CRC for making it so affordable!
I used this to upgrade from a mixed 105/FSA/Tektro group. I have other bikes with the Ultegra groupset, and it is very good, dare I say great, especially with the price so low. My local bike shop has to pay more for it than I did, and CRC included shipping! While Dura Ace may be the top tier Shimano, I feel the Ultegra is by far the best return for my money. Durable, easy to find parts for, and holds up well to my more than ample size and weight. The crankset is very positive for shifting smoothly, even though I know it's the derailleurs that do the work. With smoothness like this, I can't see any need for me to go Di2. My group did come with all cables and housing needed.
This works well and I'm loving the change to a compact crankset. I ride a lot of hills (my 36km daily commute has 650m of vertical gain) and combined with a 11-28 cassette the crankset provides a lightweight option for low gears that my knees love on the steepest sections. This does create a bit of a gap between the lower gears but for my style of riding it's well worth it.
Just be warned that this groupset does not come with cables (there was no description at the time of this review) so that you can order a set when you grab this.
