There're 2 areas in which u should skimp on getting LX/XT if u want to cut cost sensibly. 1 is brakes, as Deore brakes are, if anything BETTER then overweight XT units, and this, only difference is that it's a measly 60g more than XT (2 packs of crisps heavier) and do u really want to pay XT money for something that has such a finite life?
I Don't |

| I have always had xt but was getting really fed up with the cheese like quality of the metal xt cassettes are made from....this Deore kit is all you will ever need-lasts three times as long as xt (in my experience) shifts differently-but not worse, Is obviously heavier being made of steel, but look yourself in the eye (not easy) & ask yourself if you are gonna notice! if you are looking for some more advantages: the Nickel finish looks great when clean, doesnt corrode & as it is not built around a spider system like xt when this cassette has expired, you can knock it apart & use the servicable sprockets (I bet you always wear out the same couple of sprockets I know I do) on your singlespeed :-) ch-ching! I know I'll never buy xt again. |

| Ok here is the low down on this product . Have had my Deore cassette on my bike for seven, yes seven years.!!! I have ridden the lakes,Scotland, Dartmoor,Exmoor, and Wales and ride now in the Southdowns(Hants) at least three times a week all year round. I have gone through three chains, but still on this original Deore cassette. It changes with my little LX rear mech (Oh yeah, thats seven years old as well!!!)as sweet as the day the bike was bought. I ride with guys who have xt and xtr and this set up might be a little more on the weighty side, but performance wise its as good if not better. The key to this maybe partly due to the fact that my chain and chainset are meticulously scrubbed and re- lubbed(GT85) after every ride!!! no matter what. Hence it always looks brand new!! Secondly,I very rarely change gear when the whole system is under tension which reduces the stresses especially on chains etc to a minimum. In short, if your not too fussed about the weight, enjoy cleaning your drivechain etc regularly then go for it,its great value and lasts. |
