when you get a bit o sideways movement in the pedal rom the axel then its time to replace the bearing.i use to have the problem o then falling apart mid ride.would have it happen about once a year[i have 2 kids on then as well as me ] .until i start to check beore i ride.end of problem has not happen now or 5 years.i think they are overpriced as well because all you need is the bearing.i cant ind then in my local bearing shop.
I have used the pedals, bearings, etc for years, No problems even welded the vane when it was broken after the cleat bent it during an idiot pedestrian stepped off the pavement without looking accident .. so stop windging and buy another brand and put yours on an e based auction site
It is good that Crank Brothers have made this kit available.
Egg Beater pedals are great for genneral trail riding, but there is a fundmental flaw in their design, in that all side ways loads are taken by the bearing. OK,it keeps them simple and light, but you need to assume that your bearings will collapse, and your pedals fall apart every couple of years.
I was riding today, and the pedal came off of the axle - staying clipped to my shoe.
This is the 3rd ime I have had to replace the bearings in 6 years, so I can't really complain.
Like the other guys have said - swapping the bearings is an easy job, it just a pain in the backside, when your pedals fall apart mid ride/race/trek !
