Over 2yrs in the planning, this was meant to be one of the first Ragley products on the market, but our clean-sheet design approach and complex 3d bending requirements dragged it out until now. Conceived, tested and refined by offroad drop bar e ....Read More...
I wanted an all-round on/off road Drop Bar Bike with disk brakes. Couldn't find a factory bike so built my own based on a Kinesis Decade Tripster frame. Build included Avid BB7 brakes (road), Fulcrum 29" wheelset, Shimano Cyclocross Crankset, Shimano Ultegra Shifters. The option of Off-Road Drop Bars resulted with The Ragley Luxy being chosen. They are the weirdest looking bars ever and would terrify any respectable Roadie... but what the heck... they are ultimately comfortable and a joy to use on or off the road. There is heaps of leveraged control when riding off-road on the drops. You need to spend a bit of time positioning the shifters to your desired position before taping the bars. The attention to this detail is well worth the result. I double taped the bars for off-road comfort. In summary, they are excelent bars, very comfortable wherever you place your hands, and well worth the reasonable cost.
Got this bar to replace the road bar that came on my Kona Jake the Snake CyclX. I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical of the length end to end, but once I got it on and adjusted to where I felt comfortable, this bar is by far more comfortable than the road bar I had, and the length does not seem to effect me in a bad way (clipping). The drop lengths are great, as they give lots of hand space, and I don't have any problem reaching the break levers. You can still ride the hoods if you like, but you'll be in the drops 90% of the time, which will give you way more comfidance off road, and to me I am more comfortable and faster in the drops. The hoods are still useful but I don't find I use them like I did on the road bar; I would stay on the hoods to shift on the old bar, but now I just go down to the drops and shift and break, more comfortable that way. It's a great design for it's purpose, and I'd recommend it to anyone that has a cyclX bike or want an offroad drop bar!
