Description
A worn chain shifts poorly and wears sprockets at an accelerated rate. The CC-3 is a "Go, No-Go" gauge designed to accurately indicate when a chain reaches 0.75% and 1% wear, the point at which most chain manufacturers suggest replacement. If the 0.75% side fits into the chain, the chain is worn to 3/4 of 1%. The chain should be replaced soon. If the 1% side fits into the chain, the chain is worn out and should be replaced. Made from precision, laser cut steel. Fits all chain of 1/2-inch pitch, including 10-speed chains.
So simple to use! All you do is put the grooved end into a link in the chain and if the metal at the other end can slot into another link with no slack then you need a new chain! One side is for 0.75% wear, the other is 1%. Over stretched chains rapidly wear away your drivechain as I found out the expensive way :-(
After splashing out on chains ever couple of months thought I should try out this little beauty. I was planning to replace the chain before this weekends ride and found that it is only 0.75% worn the 1% side clearly does not fit. So just I have just cleaned and applied lube and it is good to go.
Rummaged in my tool box and found two other chains that are only 0.75% worn so they will get fitted back on the bike rather than be recycled just yet. It has paid for it self already and the rest of my drive train remains intact.
A great little tool very easy to use this wear indicator it shows when a old chain has done its time a old worn streched chain will damage the front crank teeth and wear the teeth in rear sprocket at the same time it will shift baddly and if you run a dura ace group its going to cost hundreds to replace chainrings and sprockets this tool saves this and only takes 2 seconds to use i give it ten out of ten.
