I've been servicing bikes for only a few years but I wish I'd got one of these at the start. It's very stable and the clamps work very well.
There is a groove running down both rubberised jaws so you can clamp tubing without squashing brake/gear cables. The jaws close rapidly by winding them together with a small handle. You can just make out what the handle looks like from the very top of the picture - a little L shaped winder attached to the main screw.
At the back of the clamp arm there is a quick release lever to control the orientation of the frame (pointing up or down). Again, this is very easy to use and the bike can be adjusted whilst in the frame.
The height can really only be set before the bike is mounted. You slide the top section up or down and tighten up two allen bolts on a collar. The collar can be seen in the middle of the uprights. It's pretty easy to find the height you're comfortable with then leave it forever.
The two long feet at the bottom are hinged and lock by gravity (and the weight of your bike) into position. Very stable. If you were to lift the stand then the feet would fold down and hang underneath on their hinges. By loosening a single allen bolt (or leave it loose) you can twist then slide the feet section up alongside the lower upright. The two feet and the upright are thus folded together for easier storage. You can't really make out where this allen bolt is in the picture - it's in a collar that joins the feet to the uprights.
The whole stand has a quality feel about it - typical of Park Tools. Perhaps the only thing missing is an integral tool tray - I'm gonna make myself one.
I don't have anything to compare this with as I've never had a workstand before, but it's fabulous. If you spend any amount of time looking after you bike then get this - you won't be sorry. Even oiling the chain (properly) is so much easier.
Oh, and it's a great way of displaying your much-loved steed
For £65 compared to the price of other workstands i wondered what i might be getting. The photo on the CRC site does not do it justice though, it's a quality piece of kit which holds your bike very securly. I havn't owned mine very long but it certainly gives the impression that it will give years of service. As the previous reviewer said its certainly not light weight or flimsy! Wish i'd bought one years ago. Highly recommended.
What a great cheap fine quality stand! Finally one that is stirdy and can hold a variety of bikes, nice thick tubing can hold anything. I agree the image doesn't do any justice if your looking to buy it, go to the parktools wedsite and copy and paste the bike stand name in to the search engine and it has a picture of it being used, however if your wondering wether to invest in one then this is the one for you! Great stand!
