Had a problem with losing air from my tubes on my Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL wheels. Because of the deep-section rims, it is impossible to close off the tube valve (unless you buy long-valve tubes that is). But with these extenders, you just screw on the plastic extender and then use the metal insert screw to open\close the tube valve before and after blowing up your tyres.
Since using these extenders I've never had a problem since. Highly recommended.
I have been using these for two racing seasons now and have had no problems whatsoever. I am racing on conti supersonic tyres and regularly inflate to 150psi. Would give a 5 if they had a threaded neck and collar to prevent them from sliding into the rim when attaching the pump.
I bought 2 off these @ 40mm for my 50mm carbon wheelset. I have also used on my tri spoke TT wheel. Brilliant product. Works differently to other extenders I have used. You could actually pump the wheel, remove this device and place small tape over the valve hole to stop anything entering, keep the extender in you back pocket, just screw it in place to inflate / deflate the wheel. You leave the existing tubular valve in place. This making your wheel ultra smooth profile. This device grips the existing valve head allowing you to open/ close the air vent.
