Every chain is only as strong as its weakest link - traditionally, the connecting link. In contrast, the PowerLink™ connection is just as strong and durable as every other link in the chain. It can be opened and closed as may times as you want without using any tools.
PowerLink means no weak links.
NB: One link comprises of the two halves and is sufficient to connect one chain.
IMPORTANT: 10SP Links are POWERLOCK, they fit together but then are not designed to come apart again.
Been using a PC91 with powerlink for trials for about the past 2 years. The chain never snapped during that time. When it became time to open the chain, I couldn't open the powerlink because the rollers on the chain had spread so much the chain plates inside the powerlink were pressing against the powerlink plates. No sign of damage on the powerlink though. There wasn't even a sign of obvious stretching in the plates with the long slots.
Powerlinks should last as long as the chain you're using. I wouldn't recommend using the same powerlink for more than one chian though.
These are great, you can take the chain off in seconds with this, no more chain tool crap. for those who are using pliers etc, all you have to do is pinch the link the middle, and then push the sides in opposite directions and it will come apart. Also, dont leave it undone when you take the chain off, as I will guarantee you that it will get lost and will take you ages to find!
I've been using these neat links for a few years now and I must say it makes life a lot easier when cleaning your chain.At least once a week my chain comes off for a good degreasing and clean including the link.I ride often, all XC and I haven't had my and 'powerlinks' let me down yet.I carry a spare when I race.The SRAM PC69 chains have been reliable too!Keep your chain clean and well lubricated and you'll be alright.Chain wear is obviously critical!
