Mine has finally given up the ghost, after the best part of 4000 miles. Its probably the best 20 quid ive ever spent! Runs totally smooth even when caked in mud. Its never snapped or broken on me once. Ive just got another one! It works best when pared up with an XTR cassette and middleburn hardcote chainrings! fLAWLESS
like many others,i have used different chains over the years(pc99s and dura ace 7700)and if i could pick the better chain of these two i would say the shimano just has the edge.this chain shits as sweet as a nut,is accurate all the time.yeah ithas a special joining pin,its a bit fiddly to fit but once done thats it.where a lot of people go wrong fitting a shimano chain,is not following the installation instructions correctly.when buying this or any other shimano chain you must read and adhere to the instructions.i have done just that and i have had no problems whatsoever with this chain.i am going to stick to shimano chains from now on.i can recommend this product,it is he best shifting chain going.strength? very very strong indeed!! go buy folks!!
I can only assume people that have had problems with this chain have not joined it correctly in the first place, as for the guy who's chain came off pedalling downhill, most chains would be damaged if caught in the dirvetrain! Maybe a chain device next time?
I use this chain, shifts brilliantly, slightly better than SRAM, nou much granted but the shifts are smoother period!
The chain is as strong as an ox, i try to mash up hills in the big ring so there is a lot being asked of my chain but it does it's job with no complaints at all.....
If you find the joining system a faf, and yes admitedly it is a bit of a pain, then use a SRAM powerlink in it, works like it was meant to be there and no risk of a poor join being the reason people say the chain is rubbish, it simply is not!
