I bought this headset for a Rocky Mountain bike that I owned. It came with another headset that I quite promply removed and replaced with this shore headset.
It has been on the bike for about three years and all I have ever done is replace the lower bearing. The crown race which looks like it is stainless steel is as good as new. This is a good headset.
This headset is HUGE---it looks like a couple of flying saucers have landed on my headtube. Ignore the 'super low profile stack height', it isn't any lower than most other headsets out there, in fact it is higher than the FSA one that it replaced. The bearings and cups feel like quality but why do so many companies (including Chris King !) insist on using a rubber 'o' ring instead of the 'tapered ring' system. An soon as the o ring is slightly damaged (which can happen easily when fitting), the integrity of the headset is compromised and you get 'play'. This one is no different. Managed to semi fix mine with tin foil. I ordered silver and it came with white seal rings instead of the black pictured. Overall not bad but could do better.
agreed, that guy above clearly knows nothing, the look may not be for everyone but the performance is perfect, and if you like a beefy look then its definetly for you.
