Competitvely priced, light weiht, hard wearing cassette. It copes well with muddy conditions and the holes in the spider allow dirt to clear easily. Thr teeth retain their size and shape much longer than cheaper cassettes and look new for a long time.
All sram pg cassettes are brilliant this and the 990 being the best, shifting is not smooth but is secure accurate and rapid. As for carl from south africa why the hell would u run a Shimano HG chain with a pg980 and x.9 gea**et, HG chains are a special type for the Shimano HG series they are made narrower and adapted for Shimano chainrings and sprokets - no wonder shifting was clunky they are in no way compatible!
I have had various sram cassettes before and was happy with their performance, so i went for the second from the top pg980. I would have to say i am a little disappointed in the performance for the money £35 (rrp£50). Shifting is pretty good although can skip from time to time. For a similar price you can get a shimano XT, which i have on my other bike. It is smoother & more precise.
