Coming from a year of steady riding w. a pair of Shimano LX Rapid Fire shifters, which is actually performing okay in an unsexy way, I have to say: This is like going from a VW Polo to an Audi A6. Not only is the design something that will appeal to any fetichist but the functionality is superb. So precise, both in upshifting and downshifting, and easy to mount on the bike, too. There's a lot of different ways to adjust the shifters, something for every rider and every pair of handlebars. It does take a couple of rides to get used to the fact that both shifters is activated by downward press, though, but once you accomodate yourself to it (and realize that the shift itself is both shorter and much more presize than whatever you're coming from) the shifting gets intuitive and extremely fast. As of today, these shifters are the very best aftermarket product you can buy as an upgrade to your bike.
Converted to SRAM stuff back in 2004 changed from XTR and XT purely for the looks really to X.0 rear mech and X.9 Shifters and also tryed X.0 Gripshift, just amazing, couldn't control my excitement when CRC started stocking X.0 Thumbies,owned these bad boys for a couple of months now the lightness of the shifting is unbelievable but with so much authority and presicion, Im running SRAMS 990 red rear cassette and 991 chain which must help coming from the same stable but try for yourself they wont dissapoint simply awesome!
upgraded from X-7's, Shimano XT previous and the difference is quite marked.
Very nicely engineered, with the only possible problem area the Carbon covers don't look like they'll keep all the crap out.
the change itself is markedly better and certainly worth the expense.
Time will tell as to their longevity
