Lukas Mechura takes second place at 4X Pro Tour
 |
| Team CRC/Nukeproof 4X rider Lukas Mechura took second place in the first round of the new 4X Pro Tour series last weekend in Houffalize, Belgium, with Michael Mechura finishing in a solid sixth place.
The Tour was set up in response to the cancellation of the 4X World Cup this year, so this inaugural race was an important one for all 4X racers. It was a huge success for Lukas Mechura, who said: "I think the race was just amazing, so many spectators, great venue and fast track. After all I’m very happy with this promoting of the series!"
Friday qualification was held late at night and both Lukas and Michael made it to the main race. Although they made a couple of mistakes in their runs, they were happy with their results with Michael finishing in fifth and Lukas in ninth place.
They both cruised to the semi finals on the Saturday where they met each other. Lukas, starting on line three, beat Michael and Jakub Riha to the first turn and made it to the main final. Michael was battling with Riha and they both crashed! In the small final Michael took sixth place, a great result for him.
The main final was a big battle between Lukas and 2010 World Champion Tomas Slavik. Both riders raced to the first turn bar to bar but with the advantage of the inside line, Slavik took the lead. The race continued like this until the finish line, with Slavik pipping Lukas to the post.
Team Manager Nigel Page said: "I was so pleased with Lukas and Michael Mechura's results at the first round of the new 2012 4X Pro Tour in Houffalize. Lukas and Michael have been training really hard over the winter for the season ahead and their second (Lukas) and sixth (Michael) place finishes were amazing. Huge congrats guys."
The next stop for the Mechuras is the Czech National BMX championships and then round two of the 4X Pro Tour for Michael and UCI BMX World Cup for Lukas. |
