These came on a giant i bought, was looking for an entry level bike with all the right stuff on as standard. But soon along came the spend more money on upgrading to shinier things for no reason bug, managed to resist the wheels path yet as there's nothing wrong at all, they go round manage 2 foot drops and are still straight what more could you want, only to perhaps be a bit fitter instead of spending £200 on lighter wheels, to rely on them getting you there quicker instead of peddaling a bit harder which in the long run gets you fitter quicker anyway. Well recomended if a tad on the heavy side, I've done around 2500 rough miles on mine.

It'll be the tyre at fault if you find difficulty NOT the rim. Also you'll find it hard to source a lighter rim for anywhere near this price.I never use anything else (10 years of 221'2 and 317's)

Had a several pairs of these rims now. They are super light, super value and super fast. I've run them with tires from 1.3" to 2.1" and they always look and feel good! I can't see the point in spending any more on rims for XC and commuting. Although I must admit, I've also had problems getting tyres on these rims and not others (same tyres, different rims).

Just finished building mine (wheels) and I'm impressed by the quality and price of these rims - I was expecting lower quality for this money! At the CRC price you really can't go wrong with these - if you're looking for a 17mm All-mountain rim; look no further - simply the best rim available for £20.

Great rim. Weights only 16gr (436gr) heavier than XC717, and 2 times cheaper.
Best for this price.

This is the 2nd one of these I have had, the first failed due to rim wear after commuting on the bike every day for about 6 years. I was surprised how easy it was to fit, never having built a wheel before, but my newly fitted rim runs pretty true.

Owned these from new on a 2007 Giant Trance. Never needed truing. I'm 95kg and ride reasonably fast (though I don't jump high!). @ Nik: max pressure for these rims is 69psi on a 1.9" tyre. If you run higher pressures and small tyres on rims that aren't designed for them, you're asking for trouble : ).

For reference it would apear that the last 2 numbers in mavic rims names refer to the width of the rim measured internally, i.e. relating to rim tape. so 317 is 17mm wide internally, about 22mm externally. Ie these are narrow.
First digit is the range 3 generally being cheaper than 7 cheaper than 8.

Very light, surprisingly tough, (much stronger than they should be, given their low weight) great for a lightweight, fast bike or for folks who absolutely have to get to the top of the hill first. I wouldn’t recommend doing big drops though, these are ideal if you value speed and light weight over anything else…

These rims might be strong, but mine is an absolute nightmare to get a tyre on/off. As in i've had to stop myself from slinging it down the road several times its been such a pain.

Reliable enough rim. Had one on my commute bike (which due to the state of the roads I peddle to work on meant it was probably getting as much of a hammering as if it were being ridden off road on my full-susser) and never needed trueing.

However, the braking surfaces wore out suprisingly quickly (8/9 thousand miles)compared to my cheap front wheel to the point were the rim blew with a 1 3/4" slicks on at about 85 psi. Don't know if this means these have a poor life expectancy, or my front rims (cheap thing that came on my bike) have an excellent life expectancy.
