| This weekend just gone in april 2007 i hired a kona hardtail with 2.1" Maxxis Ignitor xc tyres and wow i was impressed with the grip and confidence they give. Cornering, jumping, droping, whatever it all works with this tyre and on the red route of glentress has some seriously rocky and rough sections and at no time did these tyres albeit with the poor front suspension of the forks have any problem !! buy now :) |

| I feel that the best test for any mtb tyre is to stop mtbking for a while and then go back to it..which is exactly what ive done. We had a son recently which meant lots of time off the bike more specifically the mtb.
Ive come back to it after almost a year to start and rebuild my confidence and technique so bought another pair of these, I absolutely havent regretted my choice!
They roll exceptionally well, grippy on rocks (which I proved at Kielder Marathon January 08) wet and tight corners, give me confidence on off camber stuff and for out and out xc downhill just great..heaps of confidence!
I really cant fault them..perhaps would recommend they arent used for commuting and millions of miles as the tread will wear away quite quickly but no quicker than other tyres at this price or quality. |

| Been out at glentress couple times since putting these on a hardtail. Red route today in very wet conditions and not one slip/skid, most excellent grip especially in the corners.
STICKS LIKE GLUE!! |

| Just had my first proper ride on these today, and what a difference! The confidence these tyres give is unreal, after a few minutes you just know that they're going to go where you point them and not slide out, in scree, sand or just plain old dusty dirt (hey it's drought here). The grip placed down in the rear is also phenomenal.
Would give these tyres a 10/10 but I can only go up to 5 here! |

| I bought this tyre for summer riding when the trails are drying out however I was surpised how well they perform in the wet aswell, its one of the best all-round tyres out there, they will find good grip in all conditions, they are pretty fast rolling aswell!! I highly recommend this tyre as it is very versatile, if you just want one pair of tyres for the year, Buy These!!! |

| I can't believe anyone can say that these tyres don't grip in the mud and wet conditions.I was in a MTB event in Thetford last Sunday with 600 others.
There was no question that they gripped better than any other tyre that I have tried. The down side is that they don't roll as quick on the road, but I didn't buy them for that! |

| I've been running this tyre for several years now for XC riding/racing (the 1.95 variant). It works well in all conditions from road sections to clingy mud when run at about 40psi. It's only limitation is for trail centre work (large stones, fast downhills etc) but this is more due to the narrow profile I run rather than the tread pattern - which seems unstoppable.
I run the tyre all year round (front and rear) and have for years now, and I have no no intention of changing. I've tried loads of other tyres but none seemed such a good all rounder with no compromises as this.
For performance versus price - can't be beaten in my opinion. |

| Been using these tyres on the rear for well over a year now, in any condition, no need for a mud tyre, no need for a summer tyer, been used in Afan, Peak and Lake districts, South/north Downs, Swinley.. get you through anything and roll really quick. Love em. |

| I will only ever use this tyre on the front of my bike. Excellent grip in all conditions and on all surfaces.
Not the easiest tyre to get on or off with the wire bead but the struggle to put these boots on is worth it. |

| Found it to be really good on my hard Tail on normal well drained trails but as soon as the mud starts these start to spin. Would have hoped that they would have cleared a great deal better than they did. All in all great value as long as your not hitting the really soft mud. |

| I've had the 2.1's on lightweight XC rig for about 5 months now and am quite impressed with them. They have a reasonably narrow profile so the pressure needs to be kept up a bit and I have had a few pinch flats as a result of not doing so. I've found them confidence inspiring in dry to intermediate conditions but they aren't so keen when the mud appears - they clog quite quickly and are a bit reluctant to clear. Off road they are a fast tyre but I have found they drag a fair bit on the road. Durability is average but for a mixed terrain, general purpose tyre I would recommend them. |

been running for a couple of months now, rolls fast on hard pack trails and gives plenty of grip on the loose stuff. |

| I've got the Maxxis Ignitor eXCeption series (folding) in 1.95 on rear on my XC bike and I'm quite pleased with it. It seems thin and low profile when putting it on but rolls well enough. On cornering at speed I notice a slight tendency to wash out my rear while the front retains grip (on front I have the ADvantage eXCeption in 2.10, which I rate 5*). If this tyre were slightly more grippy it would get 5*'s too. |

| Regarding the "washing out" I described. It's not true on the trails; more just a "feeling" of the rear end breaking out. In reality it's the rear end rushing round the turn I'm undertaking, and not the tyre going out from under me.
Grip is great on anything that is reasonably compacted, like dry forest trails or hard sand. Mud is ok-ish, but loose or deep sand where the tyre can bed down is awful (but that's horrible anyway).
What I did note, and why the tyre (still) doesn't get 5*'s is that I'm thinking it'll be snake-bite prone with bigger people (like me at 90+KG). I have to run this tyre at a higher pressure than I'd like on the trails because it gets hammered by the roots. I've felt root/rim impacts on numerous occasions recently even after pumping up. Maybe I'm just too fat :) |

| Average at best unfortunately. fast in a straight line, but not at all confidence inspiring in the corners. It also likes to roll off the rim unless you pump it up v hard, so not ideal if you want to use a tubeless conversion like Stan's.... which I found out. Also very loose on the rim, so if you do use Stan's or the like, you need an airline to get them to inflate. (puncture on Greenham Common, which wouldn't reinflate, in the dark at -3C didn't endere me to these !) If you ride hardpack trails or race, go for it. If your trails are mixed or heaven forbid, have a loose surface, forget it. |

| Bought just the one to try out on the rear of my hardtail and found it rolles nicely on the flat. It will climb well in dry conditions, but once you start climbing in thin mud or wet mulch it will spin out, it has no bite. I put this down to the ramped centre knob. I have even tried running the tread pattern wrong way around to get more bite, but it still slips. Definately not a wet weather tyre. |

| Have to agree with ter's review above. I've found it good in dry condtions but when it gets wet and muddy it doesn't clear well and, more importantly, it doesn't grip very well and spins out and begins to slide. Sidewalls are looking shot after only a couple of months of XC use while the tread is still fine. Won't be buying again for the conditions I ride in. |

| As previous reviews have stated these tyres are a good buy for rocky, rooty, technical stuff but if you sometimes do the wet muddy stuff then these aren't the tyres for you. A recent trip to the Pennines had me slippin and sliding all over the place as mud stuck to the tread and wouldn't shift. |

| I had the 2.1 on the front and decided to move it to the back and get a 2.3 for the front because I though the Maxxis Medusa I had there was dragging. Now feels cushty enough on the downhills with plenty of grip and low rolling resistance on the dry hard pack but if the trail gets soft, it's like riding through treacle! I thought it was just me, but another rider remarked that he'd got rid of his because they drag so much. Would be perfect in dry, sandy, loose terrain but on soft earth they are a real drag. Have also had a lot of thorn punctures with them and they are a mission to get onto Mavic Crossride rims. |
