Initially concerned about spending so much money when I have had other bib shorts for a lot less. However, after having had them for 2 months and completed a 250 km ride up Victoria's only decent mountain climbs (Audax 250km# I have to say that these shorts were and still are fantastic. Very, very comfortable with no negative points.
Make sure you check your size though. I am 6 foot 7 and 105 kilos and would normally just order the biggest size available #3XL usually) This time I checked other reviews that mentioned loose thigh grippers and the Assos site and ordered the XL. Great decision. I have long legs and these fit perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JamieT Made for chunky thighs/the "larger gentleman"?!
I am 6.2 and therefore, having checked Assos's sizing guide, ordered an XL (which is not a normal size for me...). They arrived and although the length is "ok", the thighs are loose around my legs, especially at the base where the tape runs around. I am 12 stone, so although thin, not abnormal.
Does anyone know, since there is also a review below complaining of the same problem, whether the thigh circumference is aimed at the "larger gentleman" throughout the sizing or whether it is just the XL and upwards that are aimed at fat bas*ard himself?
Very disappointed as the quality of the shorts felt good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Having always worn good cycling shorts, these weren't much of a revelation.
Definitely top quality, and well thought out.
The front padding goes higher to help protect your gentleman bits, which are usually ignored.
The main padding seems well thought out, with multiple layers and a variety of materials, but it didn't feel any better than 1 year old Skins... which is still pretty damn good.
Fit is a bit different. Im 180cm @ 67kg, and a medium is a bit lose around my thighs, which may be the cause of the next problem.
Despite being the "Long" length pants, the legs seem very short, and come probably half way up my thighs. There is no label on the pants to state that it is or is not the wrong model, so I'm thinking of emailing Assos to see if they could determine whats what.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Longevity and wearing thin becomes issue after 12,00km's...
Extra-ordinarily well packaged product. Very impressive (also made me wonder how much was being spent on the box / the cleaner / the net bag for the washing machine / the mini-chamois creme..)
Like the fellow reviewers I agree this is an excellent fitting product, super comfortable, great padding yes yes yes.
...HOWEVER... After 14 months and a conservative 1,200km's, a few giggles behind me confirmed that the material has gone near-see-through. The WHOLE justification for me on these was buying the finest fabric known. I brushed the comments off, however when each of the clubs I ride with made similar comments, I escalated the matter for management sign-off (the wife). She laughed... that was it... decision made. Here I am on CRC now looking at Santini's. I don't have a problem spending the money, but I DID expect better longevity.
Possibly I had this problem in the red colour and would not have suffered with a more conservative black?

Have always struggled with shorts, and those saddle sores.....:-( The original Mille S1's were pretty good, but these S5's are another level. Good comfort levels, without being like wearing a nappy! I nnow have 3 pairs. Bye bye saddle sores!

These shorts are very very comfortable and very well made. The only slight gripe that I have is that the "gripper" on mine is a little less "grippier" than I like.
