Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
26 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by love the brakes, but got a naggin feeling after I heard about an issue I love those brakes, bought them as an upgrade for my Cyclocross bike, they were a bit difficult to set up properly in the beginning but after that they work aces, love to be able to adjust them tool free and the stop the bike a heck of a lot better than the original tektro lyras. However a much much more experienced rider told me the do have some internal rust issues if used on winter rides..I'm not sure if tru but am a bit nervous about it...will comment after it's gone a few winter rides...in about 6 months :P 30 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best mechanical brakes Love these! Fitted to a Long Haul Trucker and they were so easy to set up. Plenty of power and modulation. Come with nice rotor. 19 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Product These were a replacement to the Promax Render R on my 2014 CaadX 105. To be clear, there was nothing wrong with the Render R's for my commute (other than regular replacement of the pads because the adjustment knob would bottom out with 2/3rds of the pad still usable). The BB7's are a very reasonable upgrade, the braking seems stronger for a given lever effort and has a bit more initial 'bite'. The system is slightly heavier (by only a few grams) and was a bit of a pain to install - if you're using a spacer for a 160 mm or greater disc, it might be worth buying one of Avid's own spacers to ensure there's no fouling between the pad prongs (or caliper) and the standard spacer (certainly for the CaadX anyway). Make sure you've factored in the Tri-align components if your old system doesn't have this feature - you might need to purchase longer bolts to accommodate the tri-align components. Once that's out of the way the caliper alignment is a breeze and allows you to really fine tune the pad clearance to your preferred approach. 17 February 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by OK ONCE BEDDED IN AVID BRAKES VERY GOOD AND OUTWEIGH THE CLARKE BUT CLARKE IS CHEAPER,EASIER TO ADJUST,BUT AVID BETTER QUALITY,BUY IT CHAIN REACTION CYCLES VERY GOOD ! 12 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by 28 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent.... Much better than Avid BB5's I bought these as an upgrade to my BB5 calipers and they are a huge improvement. BB5's are very good and were much better than previous Shimano calipers I had used, but these BB7's are in a different league! Much more stopping power than BB5's and alot easier to setup and they don't contantly need adjusting like the BB5's did. 01 August 2012

Answer:
The road and mtb calipers have a different leverage - basically the length of the lever the cable fixes to.

It's longer on the mtb ones. If you use an mtb one with road levers, it'll be very spongy.

Answer:
Erratum...

It's actually the SLs that are lighter. ( which we cant find for love nor money)

CRC is quite right...no difference apart from colour and cable pull.

Answer:
They're designed to work with the 'throw' associated with their corresponding levers.
Apparently the mtn brakes wont get enough cable pull from road levers to work properly.

Can you clarify; are rotors included?

There is no mention of rotors in the description or picture.
A previous question asked whether rotors are included, and the answer was yes.

But this seems to be contradicted by other answers:
"You will get the calliper, brake pads and an IS to post adaptor for the size option you choose."
"This listing is for a caliper only;"

Can you clarify please.

Which wheel can I use with this disc brake?

I am also looking for a rear wheel that I can use with this brake. As it is going to be for a road bike, I am looking for a 700c wheel that can take 23-25mm tires.

I don't think the Shimano rx05 / rx31 wheels work with the 6 bolt rotors. I found the Zipp 303 wheels but I am looking for more everyday wheels in a lower price range.

140/160

Hi, putting together a bike I can use for cyclocross but probably more use will be as my winter road bike with a change of tyres. Some cyclocross bikes seem to do 160 front 140 rear, others 160 both. Any guidance? Im used to road bikes and rim brakes so likely to be impressed, irrespective of size. Thanks

Answer:
160mm front and 140mm rear will be enough. 160mm on the rear isn't really necessary as most of the braking is done through the front.
