The Elixir 3 is the perfect blend of power, performance and value. With the same excellent performance as its big brother the Elixir CR, the Elixir 3 is a less expensive version with a little added weight. The Elixir 3 features TaperBore technology found in the more expensive brakes offered by Avid. TaperBore refers to the patent pending closure system that shaves weight, looks sleek, and improves lever feedback, and provides ultimate power and control. Enjoy the top- loading pad feature. Replace pads without even dropping your wheel! New disc- brake pads can be installed without taking the wheel off. The Tri- Align caliper positioning system makes it easy to align your caliper to the rotor. With all these features, and excellent braking power, this is one obvious upgrade to your rig!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Good modulation and enough power barakes Used them with 180 rotor at the front and 160 at the rear for xc and trail riding. They have great power for this price and very good modulation. After several months front brake started to work not smoothly with small spurts and both - with squeak. Not easy to bleed without special kit. 29 July 2014

Rated 1 out of 5 by Отвратительные тормоза Стояли в стоке на моем велосипеде. Сначала было все ок, мощности хватало даже при роторах 160/160, но спустя месяц передний ротор G2 погнулся, велосипед не падал, тормоза были настроены правильно, ротор просто погнулся, я хз как. Заменил ротор на Shimano SLX. Дальше велосипед стоял зиму в гараже, не эксплуатировался. И когда весной я выехал кататься то обнаружил что и задний ротор начал скрипеть. Снял калипер, присмотрелся, и оказалось что на заднем тормозе залип один поршень. В результате неравномерной нагрузки погнулся еще и задний ротор G2. Кроме этого с родными колодками эти тормоза издавали какой то странный булькающий звук. В итоге снял и выкинул эти тормоза, а сейчас приехал комплект Deore, посмотрим как они себя покажут. 20 May 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Buy shimano instead I have had a couple of cheaper shimano breaks, and the avid 1 on previous bikes. my new one came with these. There is nothing about this break (or my old avid1) i prefer over the shimano i have owned. The rounding of the shimano lever feels alot better, the shimano is stiffer, shimano looks better. The overall feel just is greater in every way. And at half the price. Bleeding procedure is not a lot less of hussle on shimano breakes. 03 May 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by too noisy After running these for a year, its time to change them I think. I make no bones about it, these brakes HOWL wet or dry to the point of being embarrassing to use. Different pads/fresh break in procedure/cleaning do not help. To add to the pain, the rear piston keeps sticking. Stopping power is ok. Spend a bit extra and get something better 11 March 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by never buy at any cost I bought a pair for my custom full suspension bike worked finally for first 3 weeks and than the piston became full extended and would not go in. I then bought an outer pair after 5 weeks the same problem developed under no circumstances buy this product it is majorly flawed!! 23 February 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 So far, the jury is still out. Bought this to replace my 2008 Avid Juicy 5 front brake. Out of the box the brake was very spongy, but that didn't matter as I knew that I'd have to shorten the hose and bleed the brake anyway. Shortened the hose and have now bled the brake twice and it's still the same. I can pull the lever almost to the bars before the brake pads bite. At this stage I don't know if the brake is faulty or if it was because I used the rubbish Avid standard bleed kit ( see my review ) to bleed the brake. I'll try to bleed it again and see what happens. Other than that the brake is not too heavy and comes with the HS1 rotor which is an improvement over the old design that came with the Juicy 5. Hopefully when I've got the brake bled properly it will perform just as well as the Juicy 5, which has been great. 19 February 2014

Yes; the Avid Elixir and Juicy brakes both run a Post-mount caliper, so you can directly upgrade from one to the other without any trouble.

The Avid brakes are fully assembled with caliper, lever, hose and brake pads. They are pre-bled and ready to install onto a frame or fork. No special tools are required just a standard set of Allan-Keys.

These brakes run hose lengths as below;
Rear - 1280/1300mm
Front - 675/700mm

The lengths will vary slightly from one to the next, but I brought a few of each up to the office to check and determine the average length as above.
