That noise you hear is the cheer of every cyclocross, tandem, recumbent and sticker-laden courier bike rider in the world. Finally, a brand-spankin’-new, better-than-ever brake ... the new Shorty. It has Avid’s time-tested pads and hardware, and its new arm design reduces vibration. Plus, it’s lighter than ever!
Back before Avid dominated the disc brake scene, we dominated the rim brake scene. It’s no mistake that there are still Avid riders all over who ask themselves, “Why would I need a disc brake?” And don’t forget: A light set of rim brakes is still lighter than the lightest disc brakes systems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Excellent brakes
I bought these to replace a set of older Avid Shorty 4 canti brakes as I needed something more robust. I was shocked at the improvement in braking on my first ride.
These offer excellent stopping power with the convenience of V-brake type pads, which are much quicker to fit, cheaper and easier to source and much easier, for me at least, to set properly than the type of fitting on the Froglegg style cantis.
The construction is much better quality than earlier Shorty brakes, which is a welcome improvement as I've had problems with the tension lever on the older model constantly jumping out of position, causing the brakes to rub againstt he rims.
I found that Chain Reaction were the cheapest supplier of these brakes and they took a couple of days to arrive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Good value brakes
Would probably have rated 5 stars, were it not for the slightly awkward fitting to my rather old Trek frame. Once the fidgetting is done though, the brakes work real nice. Recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous awesome!
These deserve more credit then theyget.
It's the re-invention of the old 'canti's'
Simple, light and stiff.(muche better than the original canti from the 80's) Smooth action, ands they 'stop' very well.
-Who needs V-brakes or expensive discs?
It provides your bike with the 'old skool' look. That's the downside, or if that's what you're going for: awesome!
