Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Crank Bolts Got a set of these bolts on my bike. Look great and are easy to install. Didn't have a pin spanner to hand, so I used a pair on needle nose pliers to install the cap, no problems at all. Just don't slip and scratch the anodized finish! Not sure if the cap is strong enough to actually remove the crank because I haven't tried yet. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they don't come in orange, so I had to get gold. 15 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by i Had used a crank extractor for years to get pedals off to change BB's or change pedals and some could be a right nuisance and hard to use. not to mention you could never find the thing when you needed it. always at the bottom of the last toolbox you check. these however fit right on the cranks so ready for an emergency extraction, not sure why you would need to tabe crank off while out but at least they look smart while doing it, instead of just the old crappy bolts usually found on cranks. i got the gold version to stand out from the bike, only had to use them once as changed my bike. but worth every penny. 02 January 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by I replaced some Shimano Ultegra self extracting crank bolts in my Octalink FSA carbon crank. I was using the Shimano TL-FC20 tool. The self extracting sleeve (the black part) has two holes either side that are not made accurately enough for the Shimano tool to fit into. As a result of this, the tool slipped, and scratched the black element. I persevered and the second time, a second slip caused a deep scratch on my carbon crank. I am an inexperienced mechanic, and these bolts are not made to the standard I expect. 08 December 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Best avoided. Pretty low quality materials used - got rounded off / chewed up when tightened, and I can't see the 'self extracting' bit surviving an attempt due to cheap alloys. Binned them and went back to the far superior (and cheaper) bog standard Shimano ones which are noticeably stronger steel. 08 September 2012

Rated 1 out of 5 by Crap Don´t buy this! It´s crap and only usefull to protect the threads of your cranks from dirt and moist. It´s poorly designed as the threading should be inverted because when you try to extract the bolt it also unthreads the outer ring. If you still try to extract by locking the outer ring with a specific tool as i did you will find that as soon as you apply force the threads of the outer ring fail and you end up with stripped threads. Luckily the aluminium alloy of the extractor outer ring is so weak that no damage as been done to the crank itself. Be warned, if you want to play it safe remove the bolt and the outer first and use a proper crank puller. 20 January 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stay away from this item I bought 3 pairs of them just to spread the shipping overhead. I considered for a while to write a negative review or not and in the end I decided that this should be also useful to CRC to better select products in catalog. I have mounted the first pair on a crankset already in place: when I tried to remove it the outer part did not stay in place, when I turned it back and continued to extract the bolt it warped (probably alu is too soft). In my opinion it is a matter of bad design: the outer diameter of the bolt should be smaller to reduce the interference with the outer ring and this should be made of a different material. Needless to say that the crank came out easily with the appropriate tool. 21 November 2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointing because the bolts are exactly the same as you could get from your local bike shop in exchange for a packet of biscuits and the alloy collars are soft with watery gold anodising. On the plus side they are easy to fit and as an item of pure bling they could enhance your crankset, just don't expect any miracles. 22 September 2010
