The B17 is our flagship model, ideal for long distance sportive touring, trekking and MTB use. It has been on the market for over 100 years, being featured in as early as the 1898 catalogue. The model is available for gents and ladies (B17 S) in different versions: the B17 and B17 S Standard feature black steel rails, the B17 Special features chrome plated steel metalwork, and the B17 Titanium … Both the B17 Special and the Titanium also feature hand hammered copper rivets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Scheele Best touring saddle you can buy I originally bought this for a hard tail MTB which became an expedition bike. Whilst comfortable for trail riding with padded shorts I can say that after being broken in (took a few hundred miles) I can now ride it on tour for 80 miles a day wearing just normal unpadded shorts. It does need some TLC, I profride treat it monthly and always keep a saddle cover underneath it for parking in the wet. It creaks sometimes but then you need to nip up the bose bolt or lubricate the bolt and rivet joints. I would;t use anything else to perch on, well maybe the sprung flyer version! 12 May 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous Rivets painful I bought one of these a few weeks back & have now developed my first saddle sores ever (in over 35 years of cycling). 2 of the rivets at the back of the saddle were raised, so bit into my fundament every time I cycled. Several forums recommend working the rivets into shape with a ball-peen hammer, but I would rather just return the item & spend my €86.80 on a saddle that will work out of the box. 16 April 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Ride the best Have ridden on B-17 Narrow since the 1980s. Yes, you read that right! The same saddle, and it is without doubt the best and most comfortable saddle I have ever tried. Started off on a 531-tubing touring bike, and is now on my MX-4 commuter bike. Yes, it's heavier than a skinny bum-chafer, but it'll outlast them all. Bought a second one a few years ago for my new mountain bike - didn't take long to break in, and is now as comfortable as the original. Do use the Brooks wax - the saddle really appreciates it, especially if you ride in the rain. You will not regret the investment! 25 August 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Made to measure Just completed the twelfth thousandth mile on a B-17 narrow. Cant really see beyond these saddles any more, most of my mates are all on fiziks/selle italias etc. and I get some stick for the old skool looks but I'll never go back to the hype of 'gel'. The first few weeks is a little tough but then the saddle forms to suit you. A great product that looks fantastic, even on a modern bike. 28 May 2011

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous comfy When first on the bike the saddle was as hard as nails; but after some treatment with the Brooks cream it's really soft. Have now ridden my first 1000 miles on it and it gets more comfy as time goes by. Longest ride to date is 170k/7 hours no problem at all. Will soon be getting another one for my best bike. 18 February 2011

This saddle comes boxed with an adjustment spanner and instruction manual.

Proofide and the saddle cover are supplied separately.

Answer:

The Narrow B17 runs a 155mm width, while the Standard version runs a 175mm width. Length and weight is almost identical, so you would opt for the Narrow if you felt the Standard size was too wide.
