Campagnolo Khamsin Asymmetic CycloCross Wheelset

The Khamsin™ Asymmetric CX is the entry level wheel for the CX family but it is every bit as competitive as other models that compete in a higher category. With advanced characteristics such as oversized flange and Spoke Dynamic Balance ™ technology it is clear that this wheel is a step above your normal entry level wheel. Campy Tech Lab™ engineers have pushed the quality of this wheel even further incorporating an asymmetric rear rim that provides increased performance in terms of lateral and torsional rigidity as well as reactivity. New design and performance coupled with specific Campagnolo® CX construction hubs that ensure perfect functionality despite the mud, sand and water of cyclocross make this wheelset a must have for the upcoming season.

  • Differentiated rim height: 24 mm at the front to provide optimal handling; 27,5 mm at the rear for transmitting all your power to the wheel.
  • New asymmetric rim profile: asymmetrical rear rim profi le allows for better balancing of spoke tensions between drive and non drive side, giving better symetry to an asymmetric component. Increased efficiency and reactivity are sure to be noted.
  • Dynamic balance™: every point of the rim is counter-balanced by an equal weight on the opposite side. Maximum stability of the wheel even at high speeds.
  • Straight-head spoke: maximum stiffness of the wheel – maintains the spoke tension and long-lasting performance.
  • Oversized Flange: increases the torsional stiffness, increasing reactivity at each change of pace of the cyclist.
  • Aluminium Axle: reduces the weight of the wheel.
  • Sealed bearings: maintains performance over time – longer bearing life.
  • Additional seal: keeps the bearing zone clean and smooth running, maintaining performance over time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 4 out of 5 by As commuter wheels they're fantastic Nice upgrade for my decent quality but 4 year old commuter wheels. Light, stiff and smooth, especially after adding some extra lube to the bearings to loosen things up a bit. Faster uphill, more precise in steering, more efficient in rolling. Their understated appearance make them perfect commuter wheels - not flashy at all so that it wont attract unwanted attention from bike / wheel thieves. I even think of peeling the decals off to make them the perfect under cover wheels. They might be entry level CX wheels, but as commuter wheels they're fantastic. 31 January 2014

I ride my commuter bike much in hilly areas and my front wheel is damaged, so I need to replace and thought of upgrading. Can I use 28 or 32 on these wheels? What's recommended and what's maximum?

Answer:
These wheels would be fine for use with a commuter bike; although heavy loaded panniers would not be advised as they are not designed to carry this kind of weight. Maximum weight for these wheels is 100kg combined rider and bike,

The recommended tyre width is between 23 - 25c however running up to 28 - 32c should not be a problem.

Can I fit SRAM

I am uncertain as to which freehub I should choose - Campagnolo or Shimano. I am running Sram apex - Does it make a difference as to which I should choose?

Answer:
Yes it makes a difference. The splines on the Campagnolo freehub are different to those of the Shimano freehub. You can only use Campagnolo cassettes on Campagnolo freehubs. Where as Shimano freehubs are compatible with both Shimano and Sram cassettes. The splines on Shimano and Sram cassettes are identical which enables this dual compatibility. So your Sram Apex cassette is compatible with the Shimano free hub version only.
