other reviews warned me that the holes in the backing plate were filled with brake-pad-compound, and some people had success with drilling this out.
The pads were cheap enough to buy as a gamble, they were easy enough to drill out, and now they work just fine.

I bought these with a little trepidation having read all teh other reviews about them not fitting BB5 brake calipers perfectly. I had no such issues. Took out the old set, cleaned up the calipers and popped the new set in. Bedded in nicely on first ride too. Good pads for the price.

They work fine, as grippy as any other pad I've run in this brake, but suffer from a design/manufacturing fault as per other reviews. The pad compound fills the hole the locating post is meant to go into, so you have to drill it out before the pad will fit in the brake. Pretty basic error, no wonder they're cheap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous Clarks need to sort quality
I found like others these would not fit. CRC checked stock and sent me another pair confirming there is a manufacturing fault and they need the hole scratching clear to fit. I have now done this (mini screwdrivers are about right) and fitted this set and have a spare set that need clearing out similarly.
Clarks are clearly not providing a fit for purpose product and whilst CRC have addressed my problem and left me with a spare set of pads at no cost, which I appreciate, really Clarks need to get their manufacturing process right.
It appears that anyone buying this product needs to read the reviews and be prepared to clear the hole.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous Same as the two above. When i installed them i didn't have a drill so i was forced to make the groove using whatever tools i could find (ended up using a old knife and some precision screwdrivers lol) and it was a total pain in the ass. Haven't ridden them yet so can't say anything about their performance.

I really should have read the other reviews before ordering these. Nothing has changed. There is still no recess in the back to accept the spike in the calipers. So I have now got to find a drill!!! I would send them back but I need them tonight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous Don't fit!!!
Obviously Clarks never tried actually putting one of these into a BB5. It doesn't fit. Unless you're willing to finish the job for Clarks and machine them to fit. Too wide for starters, so a right hassle to wedge them in. Then when they are in, they wobble about on the pin sticking into the back of them because the hole hasn't been machined out for it to fit. Useless..

Same as previous reviews have mentioned. The back of this pad lacks a circular recess that allows it to seat properly in the brake. The hole is filled with the brake pad compound. If you happen to have the perfectly sized drill bit it's only a faff. If you don't, trying to scratch out the pad compound with a small chisel is bloody hard to impossible.
