Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for beginners Really easy to set up with minimal tools, i used some cheap pliers and a grinding tool for cutting, took like 5 minutes for the whole job. it has everything you need 28 April 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not as good as it looks Just take the below as reference, as I’ve bought the silver one, which looks exactly the same as “the carbon” one on the site but just might be different. Please ask CRC. Everything you need is packed, with too many of metal outer tube caps, actually The clear plastic coating on the surface of outer tube is so thin that it easily comes off when scratched by some hard material. As it’s not strong enough to protect underneath, the weaved silver mesh (a braid) tends to get loosened especially when it’s bended hard. I’ve also got those for shifters and it happened at the sharp curve of rear derailleur. The weaved mesh is partly fuzzy now and it catches my finger when I touch it. They look really nice on my polished silver bike and have no problem as long as they’re attached straight or with slight curves, but you need to be careful not to bend the outer tube too much. I don’t see very much of efficiency of the pre-lube, either. It may be working. I don’t know. 23 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good basic stuff You get a lot of pretty good stuff here for an excellent price. 19 August 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing! No complaints with the supplied kit and once fitted, initially the new lines looked superb. However after one long ride in the wet rust formed between the outer cable and the clear plastic sheath covering it completely ruining the look. I would therefore recommend avoiding this product. 24 May 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Utterly Useless I have a 17" on-one frame with drop bars and a brake set up for cable or hydraulic -which lets me run the cable from lever to v-brake mount without any breaks. It turns out then that the "dirt shield" is of no value. I could live with that, were not for the other flaws. What would be good would be some kind of plastic housing inside the make brake cable -as per shimano cables- because that does provide "lube", rust prevention and lower friction. Not these: these are bare metal. Not great, but I could set it up front to rear. Except, when the time came to actually put in the cable, it turned out that it wasn't long enough! This is only a 17" frame, the cable only goes as far as a v-brake mount. Yes, the drop bars move the levers further from the frame, but the stem is short -and there is a road-bike brake fixture on the inner cable. If the cable is so short as to be unusable on a mid-size road frame, then there is nothing "universal" about it. ** DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE ON ANYTHING WITH DROP BARS ** If the brake cable is to short for drop bars, it isn't going to reach from an MTB lever to a rear cable disk brake such as an Avid BB7. Hence warning #2 ** DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE WITH CABLED REAR DISK BRAKES ** What is it good for then? It'd have to be small and not one where you care that much about friction. That leaves: Apollo-branded Childrens' bikes from Halford where adding this would actually be a slight improvement of whatever it came with. Even then the seven year old you built it up for would be embarrassed to actually put the pre-lube sticker on his bike, as his friends would laugh at him, and it would actually lower the street cred of this bike worse than the "Apollo" logo does already. 03 September 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent value for money I bought a set for my next door neighbour's old Apollo folding bike, the brakes of which were totally ineffective - and I mean totally - despite everything apparently moving OK. I surmised that the problem was excessive friction in the cables when under tension, so I fitted the Clarks kit. The difference thanks to the smooth low friction cables was absolutely astonishing. It is now possible to lock up both the front and rear wheels - what more can you ask of brakes? I am so impressed that I have ordered Clarks dirt-shield brake and gear cable sets for my old Whyte mountain bike. 07 May 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cheap but silver I've fitted loads of these to bike I've serviced and they seem to last well and stay reasonably lubed. Be aware that the cable outer is naff silver unless you order the "carbon" version. 19 April 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good value set Plenty of inner and outer cable front and rear. Nice to have everything you need in one box. Brakes working very nicely. 04 October 2010
