Continental Gator Skin Folding Road Tyre Technologies:

  • PolyXbreaker - New processing techniques enable us to improve existing technology resulting in such features like Poly-X-Breaker. We use polyester as a breaker material and rely on our experience in car tyres to utililize this material to the maximum benefits in cycle tyres. The advantages lie in the additinal crossing of the individual fabric weaves in manufacturing, giving a densley woven seal with minimal space between the threads - result, Poly-X is very resistant to foreign objects without increasing the rolling resistance of the tyre
  • DuraSkin - Improved sidewall protection. An extremely durable polyamide mesh that protects the extra-fine, high performance casing from cuts, punctures and abrasion. Lightweight durability. Less than 10g per tyre, Duraskin has a very high strength to weight ratio meaning that cyclists benefit from superb anti tear proctection whilst still experiencing lightweigh performance from their tyres. High Tech appearance. You'll know when one of our tyres features Duraskin. The dark brown fabric is applied externally to the tyre casing priot to the addition of the tread in the manufacturing process. This means that Duraskin is teh first line of defence against intrusion, increasing the chances of sidewall survival significantly in the event of hitting a foreign object.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for training esp thru winter I have been riding 18 months on the same gators, in all weather, well over 8,000kms and just one puncture. Actually a couple because it took me two goes to find and dig out the glass splinter that had wedged up next to the woven layer (it pays to carry a nail to dig these out). But I'm not blaming the tyres. They can be a bit hard to roll on to race wheels on a cold, dark morning if the unthinkable happens - so instead I have them on a set of Shimano RS20s which are much more forgiving, and fine for training. 20 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tire I've put about 3K miles on mine so far on some of the worst roads in the world (Clovis NM and Adana TR), and have only suffered one puncture froma very sharp and thin shard of metal. Pror to running the gatorskins, I was getting multiple flats per ride. They wear very well too with no issues. I highly reccomend these tires if you're experiencing a lot of punctures. 14 May 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Overall pretty good I've probably spun these out for about 700-800 miles thus far. In this time, they have been over some pretty aweful rural back roads and farm roads that i need to navigate to to gain the best of my chosen loops. The tread is showing some little nicks which is to be expected, and only the rear has just started showing the initial stage of flatting across the top, but only very minor. In the wet and cold, i think the tire grips exceptionally well, its very confidence inspiring, and the tyre probably has far more to give in the wet and dry bends than my courage will ever alow me to discover. Yes i have had one puncture, where a thorn had managed to get right through the tread and carcass but for the mileaage i've covered i'd accept that as run of the mill. I think all the time i can find these online for the £25 each i paid for the folding version, i will keep these as my stable favourites. A great tyre.... 30 April 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by are not cut resistent Fantastic grip but feel let down with the puncture protection. Got a puncture today and duraskin did not live up to its hype. The tyre had a small slice in the tyre, cycling in dry weather also from a tiny piece of glass. 05 April 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Side wall blow out Only had these tires on for a short time when the side wall blew out, this is the second time on relative new tire, first coming down a steep decent @30mph (very lucky to stay on bike) & the second time was in the last mile of a reliability trial, not very impressed at all, I could cope with a puncture or two 04 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent tyre for training. So good as a Conti GP4000S but much more resistant and durable. Perfect choice for training! 23 April 2012

Answer:
The tyre width you can use is ultimately dependent on the width of rim you have but for general/ leisure riding, a 700x25 or 700x28 tyre should be fine.
