Continental Mountain King II Tyre - ProTection

Mountain King II – the new regent!

Now firmly into the second period of its reign, the Mountain King II strengthens its rule over the all-round trail bike market. Superb braking traction and optimum cornering are guaranteed in all types of conditions. The tread lug arrangement was developed in collaboration with professional mountain bikers, resulting in an exceptionally light yet positively tough trail tyre.
Trail riders, Cross Country racers, Alpine tourists and Marathon riders – this is a serious intermediate tyre option.

This ProTection option guarantees significantly greater puncture protection. In addition, they are easily converted to tubless as they feature a tubless compatible bead.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by These tyres work well in all conditions These tyres work well in all conditions. They also seem to be lasting very well compared to Maxxis tyres I've used in the past. They roll well on The climbs as well. 14 October 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good, but a little narrow Had these on my bike for over a year now and they are still going strong. I've not experienced any punctures caused by things piercing through the carcass. Rolling resistance is good and they seem to handle most types of terrain well also with good mud shedding. Running the 2.2 size (tubeless setup) and they look and feel slimmer - like 2.1 perhaps? Would have preferred them to be a little wider for more control / grip 16 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent grip. These tyres are an average price compared to Hans dampf and the equivalent maxxiss. They grip well on trail centre hard pack and perform best on rocky surfaces They shed mud pretty well too and the black chilli compound really works well in the wet. I would recommend these tyres. They are a very tight fit on my Stans flow ex rims though. It makes tubeless setup difficult. 08 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great all year 29er tyre I bought this tyre to be used as an all round winter tyre and it has been excellent. It's not a massive 2.4", it measures 2.25" on a Crest rim, but still feels big and grippy. I've used it front and near and not really noticed them - in a good way. They have plenty of grip when needed, including in deep mud and on wet rocks, and don't feel too slow on harder surfaces. Wear rate looks to be ok too. I initially tried fitting them on a Roval tubeless ready rims but could not get them to seal, fitting on a Stan's Crest was fine, but the rim needed two layers of Stan's tape for an initial air tight fit. 07 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Top notch tyre - All mountain and trail riding gem People often have preconceived views of tyres based on reviews or others experience, but often it's a load of rubbish. I have mates riding mountain king II who don't like them for various reasons, but I have to say its one of the best wheels I've been on. It's around 720g for the protection black chilli 29er version which isn't bad for such a tough tyre. It is hard to get the tyre on the rim when running tubeless with liquid in the wheel, this is because of the very stiff side wall. On the plus side it stays sealed to the tyre even at low pressures such as as 22 psi. Don't run the tyre at 40psi plus or you lose a lot of the outer edge grip, try around 25-35 (I run 30) and it works a treat! Great tyre and very strong 24 November 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Knobs rip clean off the casing almost immediately I'll start by saying I love continental tires. Bought numerous sets of the original Mountain King as I like the reasonably aggressive tread and super light weight. I was really excited to get the Mountain King II. We bought three pairs, two of which were protection, and one race sport. On my bicycle and my girl friends bicycle the treads tore clean off the casings almost immediately. (Riding trails around Oregon) Interestingly the race sport pair are still in perfect condition riding the same trails. Unfortunately we were on vacation and needed to keep riding them for a long time so wouldn't have felt right about trying to warranty them. Perhaps a defect or something wrong with the protection manufacturing process. Would be interested to hear if others have had the same trouble. 01 November 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Poor cornering I have measured 2.4" Trail king and is as wide as 2.35" Maxxis Highroller. TK is 5mm higher than Highroller. I am not impressed with Trail King because I was hoping that it will be wide tire. Also cornering is very poor and it is not so sticky as Maxxis 60A compound. 25 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by 19 August 2013
