I love these pedals and this is the second pair I've had, but I've only had this new pair for 6 months and the left pedal has cracked already! Making it useless as it wouldn't hold my foot in position safely!!

Clipped in 5 times and rode 22km before the tensioning spring broke making them useless.
Back to Time Atacs for me, CB need to hire more engineers and less artists.

I've run Eggbeaters for years now and have generally got on with them. When the cleats and pedals are new they will not let you down and you will remain firmly clipped, however they will wear, the bars will rub away and the springs will go slack. The cleats will wear out with monotonous regularity. The bearings will wear if not well greased, but tend to last longer than the older versions.
Treat them as a consumable (unlike XTs which last forever) and they're good and a whole load lighter.
Last Note for the weight weenies, these are 286gr, not 256gr as advertised on the box.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous Great to ride, poor to maintain
I really like the float that eggbeaters provide, they're great if you suffer with knee problems.
The pedals are very light too which is a weight weenie bonus.
Maintenance is the biggest problem though. Crank Brothers have made the end caps out of a very brittle plastic which just breaks when you try to remove it, making it nearly impossible to remove and service the pedal.

start to creak after about 300km and noticable play in bearings after 500, returned first pair only to have same happen with replacements. also have a very soft plastic cap that is near imposible to remove to tignten bearings. Same because old candys I had lasted ages and were brilliant.
Will be returning to SPDs
