Compatibility

I have a Scot Foil (2013) with a BB7141 press fit BB 24mm spindle. Currently fitted with an Ultegra chainset. Can I fit the FSA SL-K chainset to this frame. Also does the FSA chainset require a specific press-fit BB ?

I tried to fit a similar FSA chainset and it was a very tight fit (spindle to bearing diameter).

Answer:
The FSA chainsets will fit to a Shimano Press-Fit bottom bracket, but it is a very tight fit (the seals are around 0.3mm smaller).
Ideally you should aim to use an FSA Press Fit bracket.

Answer:
Usually, Shimano external BB system is compatible with 24mm spindle FSA cranksets. If you have 24mm spindle FSA SL-K, you don't need to worry about the compatibility. On the other hand, Just one thing different from FSA system from Shimano is K-forcelight BB cup is a bit narrower than Shimano standard BB cup. This is why some cranksets include spacer or tension washer. Especially, the tension washer is very important for K-forcelight cranksets or Vision trimax series cranksets but this isn't required if you use those FSA cranksets with Shimano BB or any other FSA BB except RED color ceramic BB(8700 series usually included when you purchase K-forcelight crankcset or Vision trimax series cranksets.) you don't need to insert the washer.

Answer:
SRAM brackets run a slight taper to suit the SRAM/Truvativ Spindles, so they are not a compatible fit for Shimano chainsets. You should use a SRAM chainset with a GXP (or GXP adapted) bracket. If you want to use a Shimano chainset you should switch your bracket out to a Shimano compatible alternative. The bracket standard required will also depend on the frame you are using.

Answer:
Sram uses GXP BB instead of Shimano external BB. So, most cases, that will not be compatible.

Which crankset/ bottom bracket will fit?

I have an '06 frame Giant Reign 3 with a RaceFace Evolve XC crankest that has given up the ghost. I am looking for a cheap and effective set to replace it with.

The spline has worn out so the crank and rings wobble when I peddle, so I need the whole lot, bottom bracket and cranks.

Answer:
The Giant Reign uses a BSA(British/English) thread bottom bracket shell. This is the standard thread used for mountain bikes.

The following crankset standards will fit your Reign.

Shimano Hollowtech, RaceFace X-Type, Sram/Truvativ GXP and FSA MegaExo.

The bellow items are good value as they include bottom bracket, crankarms and chainrings.

Also shown is the tool to fit the chainsets which is handy to have.

I need to do this as my wife has had knee surgery and cannot now get a full bend.I want to put on shorter cranks as I understand these work better for cyclists with reduced flexibility.
The bike is a 2010/11 cube streamer with an FSA triple.

Answer:
Hi, there.
Most of FSA triples designed based on BCD130 spec so, you will be able to use the chainrings. TT cranksets use a bit narrow chainline comparing to others but not that serious amount of.

The narrower teeth on the 10-speed chainring's will eat into the chain faster and not shift as effectively.

Mixing drivetrain speeds is generally no recommended.

BB30 converter

My Scott Addict has a BB30 bottom bracket. It is fitted with a converter to accept 24mm axles like Shimano Hollowtech etc; I have tried to fit a Campag Veloce Ultra torque chainset but cannot get the shaft to enter the aperture. The Campag axle appears to be 25mm and will not fit even with force. Is this the case? I need an answer before buying any other chainset. Your help would be appreciated. R.H.

Answer:
Due to Campagnolo drivetrain components not being compatible; this is likely the reason why the Veloce will not mount to the Hollowtech II Bottom Bracket.

However for more advice on this issue; please contact our Technical Department below:

Yes, this adaptor converts your frame to accept any standard threaded BSA cups; the Ultra Torque cups should fit without any trouble.
