Sram uses GXP BB instead of Shimano external BB. So, most cases, that will not be compatible.

Answer:
SRAM brackets run a slight taper to suit the SRAM/Truvativ Spindles, so they are not a compatible fit for Shimano chainsets. You should use a SRAM chainset with a GXP (or GXP adapted) bracket. If you want to use a Shimano chainset you should switch your bracket out to a Shimano compatible alternative. The bracket standard required will also depend on the frame you are using.

Answer:
Unfortunately the teeth on the 10-speed chainring are too wide to shift accurately and efficiently, making the 11-speed crankset the ideal component be run within the drivetrain.

Answer:
Shimano 10s and 11s chainset teeth are exactly the same thickness (and so are the cassette sprockets).
The inside width of the 10s and 11s chains are also the same at 4.05mm.
One reason the overall outside width of the 11s chain (5.62mm) is narrower than the 10s (5.88mm) is because the thickness of each outside plate has been reduced by 0.08mm.
I have a 10s Dura Ace chainset with an 11 speed DA transmission and it works fine. The only difference I can imagine between the chainsets is that the chainrings will be closer together by 0.13mm on the 11s which is negligable.
Shimano will not say they are compatible because they of course want you to buy a new 11s C/set.

Compatibility

I have a Scot Foil (2013) with a BB7141 press fit BB 24mm spindle. Currently fitted with an Ultegra chainset. Can I fit the FSA SL-K chainset to this frame. Also does the FSA chainset require a specific press-fit BB ?

I tried to fit a similar FSA chainset and it was a very tight fit (spindle to bearing diameter).

Answer:
The FSA chainsets will fit to a Shimano Press-Fit bottom bracket, but it is a very tight fit (the seals are around 0.3mm smaller).
Ideally you should aim to use an FSA Press Fit bracket.

Answer:
Usually, Shimano external BB system is compatible with 24mm spindle FSA cranksets. If you have 24mm spindle FSA SL-K, you don't need to worry about the compatibility. On the other hand, Just one thing different from FSA system from Shimano is K-forcelight BB cup is a bit narrower than Shimano standard BB cup. This is why some cranksets include spacer or tension washer. Especially, the tension washer is very important for K-forcelight cranksets or Vision trimax series cranksets but this isn't required if you use those FSA cranksets with Shimano BB or any other FSA BB except RED color ceramic BB(8700 series usually included when you purchase K-forcelight crankcset or Vision trimax series cranksets.) you don't need to insert the washer.

Answer:
The chain will be used without any change.
But, please check the front mech.
There're 2 different type of the front mech.
If you have a 2 speed type then you need to change the front mech.
On the other hand, usually a 3speed type can be used for 2 or 3 speed setting along with each proper setting.

The 1-piece crankset for BMX is very much a thing of the past and rarely manufactured.

Answer:
Generally 3pcs will be better in many reasons.
Axle stiffness, weight, compatibility, customizing, arm variation, maintenance....
but as you already assumed, this isn't absolute.

1pcs way is now an old school tech in BMX industry but this is still good in style and expressing yourself.
Best way to find the better crankset is simple.
Just find, buy and install what you want.

I could not find a 12-28 Shimano cassette to replace my 12-26 9 speed so I ordered a 10 speed +chain but now worry that the chain rings might be too wide for the narrow chaiin and also that the width of the cassette will be too wide for my Trek frame. Thanks.

Answer:
This will be no problem (if the chainline is set properly.)
Of course, 10 speed one will be a bit better though. This allows a bit easy setup.

Only this may cause some compatibility issues in some specific conditions.
1. too short chainstay
2. too big size difference between front chainrings.
3. not properly adjusted chainline

The chainring width isn't sensitive that much.
Actually, if you set up your bike in this configuration nicely, then this will be better considering the life span of the chainring. 9 speed chain ring is also made using same material and near same design but thicker so this will endure more.
The width difference is so called "safety margin" for some cases and also, this is a kind of marketing of the part manufacturers.(Group-set). Of course is you understand how bike works then you don't need to use all same group parts together.

Answer:
This will be compatible.
But, you may need to do 2 things if feel the gear change isn't smooth enough.
1. lower down the front mech a bit by around 2mm~5mm (front derailleur)
2. accordingly, adjust the front mech cable tension. if you lower down the mech, then the tension will be higher so just you have only to lower down the tension by turning the tension adjuster of the trigger.
