Upgrading from 10 speed to 11

Ive got a 10 speed Campag Veloce drivetrain apart from the chainset which is FSA Gossamer 52/36

I want to upgrade to 11 speed Chorus

Can I keep the 10 speed chainset to save money or do I need to replace this as welll?

Answer:
As the 11-speed groupset you are upgrading to will require an 11-speed chain, shifting across the crankset chainrings will suffer in terms of accuracy and efficiency due to the difference in chainring tooth profile.

Ultimately it would be advised to convert the entire drivetrain to 11-speed (including the crankset) to gain the benefit of such an upgrade.

Answer:
I've got Ultegra 6800 11 speed drive-train and run a FSA K Force light 10 speed chainset - I've done this for about a year and a couple of thousand miles with no issues whatsoever. Shifting is nice and slick and you expect from ultegra, no signs of any compatibility problems at all.
Can't comment on Campag though, I'd say give it a try, worst case is you have to change the Chainset - but you may get away with it..

Answer:
Cranksets are not fussy about mixing 10 & 11-sp. parts, so yes you can fit an "11-sp" crank to your 7900 system. You may need to remove a few links from your chain due to the smaller rings of the compact you're fitting.

Answer:
Yes, you could use this crank in a Shimano groupset, but there may be some compromises. Front shifting may be slightly rougher due to the ramping not being optimised for the Shimano chain profiling, and you may need to detune the front derailleur slightly due to the chainrings being spaced slightly closer than Shimano - the Ultegra front derailleur has a slightly longer swing to cover the wider space. A Shimano crank would be a better option.

Q1.when ordering a crankset do you get the chainring side( RHS) as well as the single crank on the LHS?
Q2. Just pulled the bottom bracket out of my old Gary Fisher WHHOO MTB 3 X 8 = 24 speed and it has a square taper 122.5 X 73 bottom bracket. It is labelled BC-73 and what looks like BC 1.37 X24? So I assume I need an English Thread 73 X 122.5 bottom bracket. ?

Answers

Answer:
1) Yes, the crankset includes both arms
2) Yes, you want a 73x122.5mm English bottom bracket. There's enough tolerance in frame clearance for the chainrings & front derailleur adjustment to alter spindle length by a couple of millimetres either way if you can't get exactly the same length.

Answer:
Yes, you can.
Basically a crankset isn't that critical matter in 9~10 speed configuration.
If you feel some trouble then that will be because of the chainring wear.
Also, the Tempo is a kind of low or economical line product so the chainrings were made not that mission critical or sensitive. I mean those rings were designed mainly for general purpose not for serious racers - so this can be used with other 10 speed parts without any serious compatibility problem. Just one thing, you may need to insert a spacer to get better or optimized chainline after 10sp upgrade. That's it.

Also, in general, crankset upgrade isn't that cost effective. The crankset upgrade will be effective only when you have a clear reason.

This will be one of the best among them.

Please check the arm length and chainring configuration for your riding purpose.
Good luck!

Answer:
FSA do not offer a compatible chainring in this size for your chainset I am afraid. Shimano don't offer anything smaller than 50t either I am afraid so you don't have many options.

You should be able to fit a 46T ring from a cyclocross crankset without problems. Smaller than that I think will be verging on non-existent.

Sram Red conversions

I have a Focus Izalco, and I want to convert my current PF30 bottom bracket to a Praxis conversion system. I think as a result the current Sram red cranks will need to be changed. Which Sram Red cranks should I use with the Praxis conversion?

Thanks,

Answer:
For use with the Praxis system, you would need to use the GXP version of the SRAM RED cranks.

Answer:
Ideally you should contact your local SRAM dealer and source a direct replacement for the ring. You may also be able to replace it with an aftermarket option such as the FSA below.
