Rated 3 out of 5 by Doesnt really do the trick without the face guard The helmet is well put together and quality is fine, but when it comes to practicality it isn't really a winner. Best leave it as a full face helmet with the face guard on, taking it off will turn you into looking a horse jockey. To me the interchangeable padding that comes extra in the box is not to me any different from the ones that is already in the helmet on forehand, so if it doesn't fit it never will. I have a normal sized head and I regret not getting M/L, but it's working. 10 August 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Problems I ride mtb's up and downhill. Average three 3hr rides a week. I have used this helmet for around 2 months. Problems with my Cratoni Shakedown. 1. Peak adjustment tab cracked. 2. Chin guard bolts came unglued. 3. Every single bit of velcro holding cheek pads and head pads came unstuck. I had to buy new velcro straight away. I stuck with it! 4. Pads looked rubbish. Cheap sponge. Poor quality for price, I thought. 5. Pads were rubbish, all the lining started coming off after a few weeks. 6. Noticed that the shell had come away from the EPS!!! I should've returned the helmet after the first lot of problems! I stuck with it because I liked the style and the option of the chinguard, but the shell coming unstuck really is a pretty serious final straw! The shakedown is a good idea, looks cool, lightweight and would certainly offer more protection than a standard, open face lid. Mine was seriously flawed with numerous quality issues. I've returned the Shakedown and given up on the idea of 2 in 1 helmet for now. Come on Giro, bring back the Switchblade! 16 June 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by this is a jack of all trades lid so there's zero point comparing it to ride specific examples. its less XC than anything else, all-mountain/DJ that can be adapted to challenging endro and light FR. i need something for all day trails rides that will suffice on big mountain gravity runs and I think this will do it and there is not much else out there. I've ridden mainly with out the chin guard. fit is not adjustable but 2 interchangeable padding options come in the box. it relies on the deep rear to cup your melon for a snug fit all over not like XC types which fix around an adjustable ring. to stop really technical gnar shaking it loose the chin strap is needed and this i find a bit d**ky compared to dedicated full-face lids. riding mild summer-autumn UK conditions is comfortable even if on all day, it vents OK and I'd say would be bearable at 30+ temps. with the chin bolted on you really feel the difference in weight to proper f/faces but still feel well protected. If i was going to DH a session I would consider the race specific options in the same price range. I rate the graphics options some rather storm-trooperish. goggles work best with chin but still OK with it off, makes for a horse jockey look. I was sceptical before committing to this but not only are there limited alternatives I'm happy with my investment. with out the chin on its still a very good lid. 23 October 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great value helmet, light weight and good protection I do all different kinds of mountain bike riding including cross country, jumping, all-mountain stuff and some moderate downhill so I wanted a helmet that could provide full-face protection but still be light weight and breathable enough to stay reasonably cool... The Cratoni Shakedown was the ideal choice! At only 730grams it is by far the lightest full-face helmet I have found anywhere but it is still great protection (especially when worn with goggles) as I found out when I had to make a last minute dash through a wall of branches between 2 trees. It also breathes really well with large vents in the top and back providing plenty of ways for heat to escape. My only complaint would be that the silver/white paint is very thin and after only a few brushes with some branches and from some light rubbing on my handlebars when I took it off to ride uphill it has started to come off in places. Overall this helmet is by far the best value for money I have seen anywhere (online or otherwise) and I am extremely happy with it... I would give it 4.5 stars if I could! 14 August 2012
