Crud Race Guard

Updating the Race Guard was never going to be easy. It had served us well for 11 years, and was still the market leader. Basic market research showed us that the update had to include a fast-fitting, simple fixing system. It took us about 2 weeks to come up with the one-bolt solution. After 3 months of tweaking and prototyping we were ready to start the tooling.

Crud Race Guard Features:

  • Single bolt.
  • Attaches to seat post.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Fell off after a few rides Mk1 was much better, this one only clips in place and mine came loose and then 'lost' useless 02 April 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by name says it all crude a crude elimentry design I do not like not impressed by it 17 January 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Joint becomes loose and mudguard rattles annoyingly After minimal use the joint between the mudguard and the mounting becomes loose and the mudguard rattles. Version 1 of the mudguard where the joint was secured by a bolt was a much better product. If the mounting on version 2 was changed to save cost I would gladly pay 1 or 2 pounds more for the bolt mounted product. Version 1 was a much sturdier product - both the seat post mount and mudguard mount were superior 09 October 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor - it rattles How can anyone design a mudguard that rattles after a bit of use. terrible 15 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by SEAT POST FITTING THE PRODUCT AND SERVICE FROM CHAIN REACTION ARE EXCELLANT, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS, THIS ITEM WILL NOT FIT A 34.9mm SEAT POST. 15 August 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Flawed Fitting the guard and altering the angle was very simple. The mudguard works until you knock it gently (say with your leg as you mount your bike) and the clip in section that is on top of the actual guard pops out. You can pop it back in but I now have a mudguard that rattles. I've tried glueing in with gorilla glue to no avail. 08 March 2013
27 September 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good up to a point This rear guard worked well for me - fitted easily, stayed put on the seatpost, and most importantly kept the mud off my back. I did have a problem removing it during the summer but the excellent Crud after-sales service sent me a replacement seatpost clamp which fixed this. However, after eleven months, just like other people, the guard started rattling where it was no longer a tight fit with the seatpost clamp. And then it fell off. It was good while it lasted but I'd hoped for better. 14 March 2012

Answer:
This will fit but its not ideal. The reason being that this has been designed for a 26inch tyre. So it will not give full coverage of 29er tyre. You can lower the mudguard closer to the tyre but you will still get some over spray. You would be best to go for a 29er specific mudguard or go for a high fitting road mudguard with a very wide coverage. (29inch tyres are the same size as a 700c road tyre.)
