Crud Road Racer Mudguard Set MKII

Mudguards for race bikes with minimum clearance, extended rear guard for full coverage

In response to numerous requests, we have designed longer tailpieces for the rear Roadracer. We have also beefed up the product in key areas to extend the life of the product.

Traditional mudguard construction dictates a sturdy design, with bolted fixing at the brake bridges, and metal or rigid plastic utilised in the main Arc. The principle has remained unchanged for a century or more. The CRUDRoadracer’ concept turns orthodox road mudguard design on its head. We reasoned that if you could ‘float’ the mudguard off the rim, as in the diagram, then you could do away with a lot of the traditional fixings. The ultralight ‘Roadracer’ mudguard (180g per pair) just hovers in place, so there is nothing to rattle or rub. The brushes instantly dampen any road vibrations, settling the mudguard into its neutral central position.

In extensive tests we have failed to wear the pile against the rim, and the friction involved is so light as to be un-measurable. Customers can get replacement pile strips for the cost of a couple of stamps.

Suggested max Tyre Width: 25mm

Rated 3 out of 5 by good Looking good and work well, but snowy road didnt work 17 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Do a great job, but flimsy I've had these for one and a half seasons now and am about to order my second set. Fitting was ok but take your time and watch the video. They look great, don't rattle and keep you, your mates and bike dry. BUT - they are brittle. I had to glue the tailfin on the front and back several times and used up my spare fins. This was OK and the guards still functioned well but the rear cut out which the cable tie passes through to secure the guard to the brake block has now worn through. I've tried various workarounds but reluctantly have to give up as the guard has now dropped onto the wheel. I guess £26.99 isn't a high price to pay for one and a half dry seasons which average about 150 miles a week, commuting, training and sportives 12 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Прекрасная защита всильный дождь! Очень качественно сделаны, сменные брызговики разной длины! Полностью защищают! Красиво выглядят! 31 January 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Almost useless! Bought these after good reviews. Waste of money. Fiddly to put on is a massive understatement, as this product relies on you having skeleton thin fingers needed for attaching tiny nuts and cable ties...yes, cable ties! I've got 700x25 tyres and trying to adjust them to not rub is almost impossible...tweek after tweek after endless tweek...GOT IT!...oh no ..there's a spec of dust on the tyre and now the guards rub, again! And as they are the flimsyest plastic known to man, side wind causes even MORE rubbing! And guess what the stays DON'T do...yep...STAY, they should be called 'moves', even when the rubber rings are double tightened. Flimsy plastic + bendy stays held on with rubber bands = AN ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY! 30 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by very good once fitted! Fitting was a bit fiddley but once on these are great, look good too ... well as good as any mudguards are going to! 09 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very easy to mount and dismount I am very satisfied with mounting principle. Very quick and easy. The guard functions are excellent. 14 December 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Absolute Waste of Time & Money Mudguard snapped in two places in the first week of fitting. I wrote to the supplier and was told "Bad Luck" by the company... Will rather spend a little more on a better product - SKS Raceblades look much more durable 25 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by does a great job Easy to fit , just a couple of rubber bands and a cable tie .Have done over 3000 km with them on the bike , left them on all summer because they are so light. Very very happy. 03 November 2013

Answer:
The 'Crud Road Racer Mudguard Set MKII' would have a max Tyre Width 25mm so unfortunately would not be suitable for your Schwalbe Tyrago 700c x 37c tyres.

Will this fit my bike?

I've got an old Olimpus racer bike. The tyres are 700x23c, which should be ok. I'm just not sure about the frame. I've attached a photo, but it's basically the old/thin design. Will these mudguards fit? If not could you suggest something on a budget that would?

Answer:
These can be used with cantilever brakes. The brake cable would need to be placed over the top of the mudguard.
