Rated 4 out of 5 by read instructions before using I'm very used to this tool which is low-cost and does the job. The people who are breaking it could be placing the chain in the middle position in the tool which is strictly for freeing up a tight link, and then trying to break a chain but snapping off one of the lugs on the tool instead. To break a chain you place it in the end position so that the force only puts pressure on the robust end of the tool. The tool is for chains up to 9 speed. i.e. not 10 or 11, these narrow chains aren't wide enough to press on the robust back and the pressure goes on the lug. Bear in mind the above and buy the tool for light use on standard chains, no need to spend more. 26 May 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by It broke the first time I used it! Well that's it really it arrived with my new chainset etc Tried to fit the shimano pin and the tool broke. I used the one on my multi-tool no worries. Bit disappointed as I live in NZ so no point in returning it! The metal is like the stuff toy cars are made from. 06 March 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broken after 6 month This tool was very useful, but I've used it no more than 10 times and it broke. Maybe I have not be enough cautious the last time, the fact is that I will buy one more expensive and better built. 21 January 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by not good This product was absolutely poor. Used once and it is already broken. not recommended 09 December 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product is poor quality First time I used it the metal lug broke where the chain sits. Disappointing...I hope Chain Reaction will let me upgrade to a better model. 14 October 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by dreadful - broke lug on first use avoid this - took it out of its packet and went to use on a new shimano 9 speed chain to get to right length and within seconds one of the lugs had sheared off - really not impressed at all 26 September 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor quality I read the good reviews of this tool and bought one. I split the old chain on the bike and when shortening the new chain to size noticed that the pin of the tool was not centered on the pin of the chain and that the tools pin spiraled around when turning the screw. Therefore the tools pin would have been reming out the pin-hole of the chain. Don't skimp on your chain tool. Don't expect too much out of this tool as it is very cheap. Your chain is too important. When I buy my next chain I will be buying a decent chain tool to shorten the new chain. I did not realise how much force (a lot of force) was needed to remove the pins out of chains. I think it is only suitable for a compact emergency tool to take with you on long rides as it is compact. 18 September 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent quality for the price Reading some other reviews I reserved my opinion on this little tool because it looks similar to others I've had in the past. I think the quality of this too surpases the one I had before it, seems to handle even bmx chains pretty well (that which have killed my last couple of chain tools). Although I've probably learned to take a bit more care now. Still excellent quality for the money and I think this one should last quite well. 06 July 2012
