Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Strong rims
I built these rims with black 105 hubs and 32 black DT Swiss Comp spokes 3 cross front and rear. The plan was to make myself an indestructible set of training wheels which looked good, the result was a success.
I weigh about 98kgs and had had trouble with breaking spokes in every wheelset I had owned, I decided to build a set of wheels with plenty of spokes and strong rims and hubs on a moderate budget. The rims came in slightly under weight at around 500g each and have given me no trouble. They are heavier at the sleeve joint, but that is opposite the valve stem and is not noticeable while riding. The wheels weigh 1930g without skewers or rim tape, which is not light. But since building them over 2 years ago I have had no broken spokes and I have never had to true them. I would have done around 15,000 kms on them. I have retensioned them a couple of times to keep them nice and tight, and despite running high spoke tension with no eyelets the rims have been fine.
Bottom line: Not light, maybe not for racing (although I have raced on them), but strong and reliable. Build with these if you want a set of wheels that you never have to worry about, that you know will get you home no matter how far you ride.
