Rated 2 out of 5 by Not Great They did what they were suppose to, however they are made from cheap plastic. As a result they have already broken. Luckily the important part of the spacer has not broken so they still work. Good if there is no other option. 22 May 2014

Rated 1 out of 5 by Disintegrated after ~200km Don't waste your money. I bought these as they were cheaper than the alloy ones and thought that good quality plastic might be up to the job and I wanted to be able to use my original steel bolts for a single ring. These shims disintegrated after ~200km meaning I had to cut a ride short, which really irritated me. I've since found some shorter steel bolts, which I'm hoping will do the job properly. 24 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice product. Good litle pieces to set up my crank with race face single ring, without bashguard. Dont use bash guard on my fatbike. So saved alitle weight. 19 April 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Totally not up to the job! Doing a 2x9 conversion from a triple chainring setup. Usually I buy a set of 6.5mm chainring bolts for around £6. Thought I'd try these to save a few pennies. Waste of time! Chainring bolts need to be tight. As soon as I tightened down on the first, the metal ring deformed and the plastic snapped. Tried the second....same. Didn't try the third! Save yourself the hassle and buy a set of chainring bolts instead. These are not fit for purpose. 06 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent little bit of kit. Had doubts about these as they are made of plastic, however super little component to tidy up your crank spider if you are going to dump your outer chainring or bash guard. Also allows you to run your double chainring bolts which was my main reason for purchase. Good bit of kit,get em. 05 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Simple but effective These do a good job of masking the silver tabs on my black FSA cranks when I converted to a single ring setup. These consist of a small metal shim to account for the 3rd ring that would have been there with a plastic surround that acts as a cover. The plastic makes these items cheap but still look great. The alternative is the Race Face full-metal equivalent, but they are around 3 times the price and perform the same role. 24 March 2014

Will these work with shimano?

I have slx triple cranksets. I want to remove the outer (largest) chainring. I was going to go with shorter chainring bolts, but then realised the stress of the bolts would be directly on the spider - no longer supported by the harder outer chain ring.

So, my question is - will these tab shims fit on a shimano crank spider? If so, are they designed to spread the force of the bolt or just enable the use of the original longer bolts?

Answer:
The tabs act like a thin shim with a cover, nothing more. The issue you raise about stress should not be an problem as the outer rings are often aluminium and therefore no harder than the spider. Most of the force is in fact transmitted tangentially through the bolts into the holes in the spider with the force from the bolt face only holding the rings in place.

Answer:
These tabs are designed for use with the E13 cranks only; they are not listed as compatible with the Shimano chainsets. If switching from a triple to a double, you can simply use shorter chainring bolts.
