Easton EA70 XCT MTB Wheelset

Finally, a durable, lightweight, UST compatible wheelset that you afford without selling the farm! Talk about trickle down technology: the EA70 XCT takes some of the best features of the more-expensive Easton tubeless mountain wheels (welded Easton aluminum rims, butted spokes, a generous 19-millimeter internal rim width and sealed cartridge bearings), all at an impressive value. Equipped with the advanced UST rim so you get to run your favorite tubeless and non-tubeless rubber. And the stealthy grey-on-black graphics will make any trail or XC bike look much meaner.

Easton EA70 XCT MTB Wheelset Specifications:

  • Wheelset Weight: 1745gr (front & rear)
  • Rim Type: Tubeless and non-tubeless
  • Type: Clincher / Ust
  • Rim Material: EA70 Alloy, Welded
  • Internal Rim Width: 19mm
  • External Rim Width: 24mm
  • Spokes: Double Butted, Black
  • Spoke Pattern: 24-3x

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Отличные обода! 09 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fab quality and amazing value I bought these to replace an ageing Mavic/XT wheelset on my 2004 Kona Kula. The build quality is exceptional and they just look and feel like they'll go on forever. They're great value in the CRC sale and they arrived really quickly too. The only issue I have is that because they're tubeless compatible, non-tubeless tyres are a very tight fit. I couldn't get my 1.95 summer tyres on at all and barely got the winter 2.2's back on. I think I will have to fit Slime tubes because the chances of changing a tube out in the field are not good! 26 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 10 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent wheels at this price At the discounted price these are going for, this is a steal. Not sure if they are worth the original price, but I've enjoyed riding on them so far. Light and fast rolling, and they seem to be durable enough to handle most of the jumps and drops I put them through. Freehubs haven't given me any problems so far in 6 months of riding, and engagement is quick and smooth. Upgraded from a pair of DT Swiss 445D wheels, these are superior in every way. The first thing I noticed was how much faster I could accelerate. 21 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Неплохо!!! Колеса хорошие , все понравилось, полное соответствие качество- цена ! 05 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by good rolling set of wheels my previous pair of 2kg rims with individual ball bearings. I usually do about 28km/hr on trails but with EA70, I can easily roll at 30-32 on the same trail. weigh it and found the weight around 1.6kg, without brake disc and cogset. On road, I can easily roll at 35km/hr drafting behind. 04 May 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Не важные подшипники Получил колеса. Внешне добротные обода. Втулки дешевые. При вращении переднего колеса чувствуется как перекатываются шарики в подшипниках (Ось 15мм). Заднее колесо вращается с шумом. Не рекомендую. 10 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by fairly light, good price Not sure if I'd ever consider paying the full price for these wheels, but with 62% off from CRC they were very good vaule. They seem strong enough for me and are staying true. I am 82kg. Actual weight was 776g front and 960g rear (without skewers / cassette etc. 6 bolt. 26" QR Front & 135 x 10mm Rear ). Nice to have the option of full UST wheels, but personally I'd rather go for the belt and braces approach and use a lightweight inner-tube - still lighter than using tubeless tyres. Have used with Conti Travel Contact 1.75s and much better Racing Ralph DD TLR 2.1 and 2.25. Weight saving is mainly noticed when climbing. I can now accelerate up much steeper inclines. The 'stealth' black design also looks fantastic and shoudn't attract unwanted attention when the bike's locked up somewhere 28 March 2014

Been out of the mtb scene for a few years and want to go tubeless. Buying these wheels and already have tubeless ready wheels.
Can I just fit them or do the need a tubeless kit, strips, valves and sealant?
These do come with new presta sealed valves iirc.

Answer:
All you need is UST Tubeless tyres for these Easton XCT rims they come with valves & skewers. It's up to you whether you run sealant inside, you don't have to as the tyres seat on the rim very well.
Unless you have an air compressor to pump UST tyres up it can be difficult with a floor pump. What I did was wrap a roof rack type tie down strap around the circumference of the tyre once its on the rim and pull tight. This helps compress the tyre to create the initial seal while you pump air into it.

As this rim has an internal width of 19mm it is advisable to add a few extra mm's and apply a 21mm rim tape.

Thanks Andy. Turns out the spokes aren't visible inside the rims, which I assume means I don't actually need the rim tape.

Answer:
As your bike has a 15mm Front Thru-Axle and Quick Release Rear hub; the ideal option is (sku407955) 15mm Front & 135 x 10mm Rear.

Easton list their QR wheels as 10mm but run the conventional Quick Release setup.

Answer:
Not being a Norco dealer I can't be certain, but going by the spec on their site (http://www.norco.com/archives/2011/...) it appears to be running standard QR front and rear, so the QR Front and 135x10mm Rear (sku407950) should be fine. These hubs run a 6-bolt fitting rather than the Centrelock style on your current hubs, so you will need to fit new 6-bolt rotors
