Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well made, easy to fit and very comfortable. I suffered with pins and needles in my fingers after several rides while using the standard grips the bike came with. Initially I adjusted my grip positions and tried shaking it out but they kept coming back. I took a risk getting these Ergon GP2 grips because of the price. However, the pins and needles are gone and the expense was worth it. The bar ends are a fantastic size for me; great for climbing and yet small enough not to get in the way of trailing branches or shrubs on the narrower sections. 02 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Anti-Palsy device You only need to wake up with Handlebar Palsy once to realise you need to think hard about your grips. Spread the pressure and give your Ulnar nerve a break with these. They work for me but my wrist is a bit of a mess from a previous injury and we're all different. 17 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Done what I hoped I was finding that I was getting pins and needles when using my MTB and someone suggested the Ergon grips with the additional support for the heel of the hand. Now whether I was getting the pins and needles from incorrect positioning in the first place I don't know, but theses grips have helped. I no longer get the pins and needles and it is surprising comfortable to grip in a normal position and when using the bar ends. Some people say its a bit 'wimpy' to use them, but if it improves my enjoyment of a ride, then I'm a wimp! Happy with them. 27 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by compatto e comodo permette escursioni più lunghe attutendo il formicolio alle mani. Corna compatte ma funzionali anche per "manone" come le mie. Montaggio semplice con istruzioni precise. Ho preferito usare la dinamometrica data la bassa coppia di serraggio e la tendenza a stringere. 21 November 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Comfortable Grip I was looking for some bar ends for my MTB and came across these. I suffer with pain in my wrists and these have elevated this on long journeys. Very comfortable and excellent quality. 12 March 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply amazing I own these grips for a week now and I've tested them in 3 rides of 40 miles each. They are simply amazing. The flat area is so relaxing that I don't need (or want?) to change my position and grab the bar ends! Almost every pothole on the road passes unnoticed (only a road with cobblestones reminded me of my past grips). They are easy to install in the first place, easy to adjust and there is absolutely no play during the ride (just tight the 4mm allen screw and that's it). Do yourself a favor. Buy one of these. Your hands will be very very happy. 16 February 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good I've had these on my daily commuter bike for a few years now and they are brilliantly comfortable. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the best position for comfort, but once you have it right, they are so much better than simple round grips. I was suffering from sore wrists and pads before (old man), but not now. It did feel like my hands were going to bounce off the bars at first, but I soon got used to that and adjusted my grip a bit. After being in the sun for a few years, the grey padding on the top of the grip has degraded into a sticky goo. That's the only down side. 19 June 2012

Answer:
The small or large refers to the diameter of the grip, 92mm or 102mm to suit different hand sizes, and not to the length.
A more comprehensive answer can be found on Ergon's own website.
My choice of 'small' was based on my perceived understanding of greater control as I hammer along rough and twisty terrain.
